Happy 12th Birthday, Brynn!

Our Brynnie is 12! For her birthday dinner, she chose Olive Garden with Italian donuts for dessert. They were super yummy. They reminded me of beignets..I think they pretty much were the same.

Last Friday night we had a couple of Brynn's friends over for a 'Nailed It' party. It's a show on Netflix where contestants try (and usually fail hilariously and miserably) to re-create amazing cakes. So, I made a taco cake that they had to decorate to try and match mine. I had already baked the cakes, so all they needed to do was frost/decorate.

Since Brynn was one of the 'contestants,' she didn't know what the cake was in advance. It was about as entertaining to watch them as it is watching the actual show.

 My cake...

Leah, the redhead on the left, was the winner!

You can see Brynn mouth something during the middle of our singing...it was the most tween thing ever. Haha. We were singing 'happy birthday, Brynnie,' and she says...'don't call me Brynnie!' Oops. :-)

Saturday we celebrated with family...including Strawberry Shortcake.

Aww, our big girl. 💗

Ben set up a target wall of cups to knock down with the Nerf gun.

Adria attended the party as well and she and Clara had a great time playing all day and into the evening.

Brynn and Reagan headed to the lake with Grandpa and Grandma for an overnight visit which also included two stops to DQ. :-D

Reagan brought her cotton candy maker that she received for Christmas.

Working with the gift we gave her which was a little woodworking lathe.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us, called Brynn, sent cards and wished her a happy birthday. Cheers to 12 years. We're not going to talk about next year yet. :-/

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Halloween 2025

Happy Halloween! We did trick-or-treating at my office again and celebrated National Cat Day a couple of days late. Unicorn making magic happen! The kids and Freddy. We got a little bit of a late start around 7:30. We went to a neighborhood near the high school where several of Clara's friends live. We stopped at Micah's house to say hi and another schoolmate happened to be over as well. We got to visiting too long and by the time we headed back out, some houses either had run out of candy (including Micah's, where they went through 600 pieces his mom said) or were already done for the night. But, we still got around to several. It had just gotten done raining and the wind was cold, so I didn't care to be out too long myself. Clara asked to have another post-Halloween party this year and Brynn planned and executed the whole thing. One of our fav parts was the missing children posters which were all the guests. Green Army Man, Clara Barton, Luna Lovegood (from Harry Pott...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
