Labor Day Weekend

The girls waiting for the bus one morning this past week.

Clara has officially mastered making pancakes all by herself now.

Saturday afternoon and evening we celebrated my mom's birthday at the lake by catching and eating fish, gifts, cake and doing TikTok challenges and dances.

Ollie and I tag-teamed fish frying. He was on top of coating the fish and I fried.

Grandpa tried out his popcorn maker on the fire.

And some fish too...

Clara decided it was pretty good!

Happy birthday, Grandma!

We still had never actually spent the night yet at my parents' lake place in Lake Park, though the girls have several times. But, Saturday we finally did. Dana went on to his parents' to bring in our jet skis on Sunday morning and we stayed a bit longer at Duck Lake to have lunch at the new malt shoppe in town. The food and ice cream was really tasty.

Earlier this week Clara had found a recipe for some bread dough that she wanted to make. I told her Monday would be a good day to try it out since we were planning on hanging around home anyhow.

Once she started looking at her cookbook a bit more, a cinnamon roll recipe made from the bread dough caught her eye. It only used half of the dough that the recipe makes, so I think maybe we'll use the rest for fried bread or something.

The rolls turned out pretty good!

We just got stuff done around the house today; Brynn mowed lawn and did some homework. Daddy and Clara cleaned my car inside and out for me. So wonderful!

We snuck a trip to the park in right before bedtime tonight.

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Halloween 2025

Happy Halloween! We did trick-or-treating at my office again and celebrated National Cat Day a couple of days late. Unicorn making magic happen! The kids and Freddy. We got a little bit of a late start around 7:30. We went to a neighborhood near the high school where several of Clara's friends live. We stopped at Micah's house to say hi and another schoolmate happened to be over as well. We got to visiting too long and by the time we headed back out, some houses either had run out of candy (including Micah's, where they went through 600 pieces his mom said) or were already done for the night. But, we still got around to several. It had just gotten done raining and the wind was cold, so I didn't care to be out too long myself. Clara asked to have another post-Halloween party this year and Brynn planned and executed the whole thing. One of our fav parts was the missing children posters which were all the guests. Green Army Man, Clara Barton, Luna Lovegood (from Harry Pott...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
