December Things

Last Friday the girls and I braved some nasty weather and made it to Weckerlys' for a Favorite Things party Tessa had invited me to. We had a fun time at that and then had to head out fairly early on Saturday as Clara had a birthday party to attend in the afternoon.

On our way back, we stopped at Cows + Co. Creamery near Carrington for some lunch. I think the girls were skeptical at first as they have a limited menu. They both had the gouda mac and cheese and have not stopped talking about it since! It was so rich and delicious.

After I picked Clara up from the birthday party, we went straight downtown for some Blackbird ahead of the holiday lights parade.

Reading some wall notes.

It was about 20 minutes after the scheduled start time before we began to see any floats coming down Broadway. We had brought our full winter gear plus mitten and boot warmers. I foolishly didn't put any warmers in my boots and regretted it. :-( I got so cold that we didn't make it to the end of the parade. Nevertheless, Clara filled up her bag with lots of candy...and some toothbrushes. Ha.

The weather was much nicer on Sunday and we were able to do lots of sledding across the road.

Brynn and Brooklyn enjoying some hot cocoa bombs one night this past week.

Clara's reindeer drawing was so cute and creative. She was explaining all the details she put into it to me.

Brynn made me this really cool bouquet of paper flowers.

Clara started piano lessons this past week. She was so excited and her teacher is so fantastic. Clara is picking up on it so quickly already...thanks to her music class at school and encouragement from cousin Elise. It really wasn't that cold in Ms. Danelle's apartment, so I'm not sure why they were both so bundled up. :-)

My early Christmas present! Dana and Brynn put together this standing desk for me to use for my work from home set up. I am working from home typically on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week which I love. You just push a button on this thing and it moves up or down. And you can program it to remember different height preferences.

Clara made some snow cones:

A quiet Friday night in for Clara...

Not so much for the rest of us after Clara went to bed. We started out with Nerts and snacks which was all good and well.

Then Brynn drank most of the energy drink I had..

Her eyes are all red because she had some type of caffeine-induced cry fest. She recovered well, but it was a rollercoaster there for a bit. haha.

Brynn had a baby-sitting job last night and so Clara and I got started on Christmas cooking baking with one of our favs, peanut butter blossoms. They were out of chocolate stars at the store, so we had to opt for kisses instead. I told Clara that now we have to unwrap all these individual chocolates, but she was up to the task!

We had 'The Grinch' on in the background. It's Clara' fav Christmas movie.

Post-church puzzling with Dad today.

Dana and Brynn took off to run some errands this afternoon and then Brynn texts this to me of them getting all hopped up on energy drinks again. No meltdowns yet though. Fingers crossed. :-D I love this pic though. Ha!

Next up on the list was sugar cookies so we did those this afternoon.

And we finished the afternoon with some outside time.

Aw, they are so creative! I love that Clara is getting into piano. Haha, the saga of the energy drink consumption. I'm glad you guys are getting some baking time in.

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
