Back to School 2024

Brynn had very minimal school supplies that she needed, of course, so she took care of hers on her own and just Clara and I tackled the fourth grade list.

How Brynn and Hubert were preparing for school starting. Haha.

They made the yearbook!

Clara was excited that she will have her first grade teacher again for fourth grade. Back-to-school night was on Monday. She got to see who else was going to be in her class and put away her supplies, etc.

Today was the official first day!

Brynn came home over her lunch break and things seemed to be going pretty well at that point, and then she only had one more class before she was done for the day. She has last period off again this year, so she was glad for that. She plans to continue working at her part-time job throughout the school year.

Clara reported a great first day! Her teacher shared some photos.

We did have time during and after dinner to chat about the day more and Brynn said her goal for this school year - aside from the obvious of doing well in school and the already-on-track-to-accomplish goal of making money - is to make more friends. Brynn's rating for the day was 4 or 5 out of 10.

When I asked Clara, she said to "feel comfortable in my class, do everything I need to do, master division and improve my typing." I was going to ask her to rate her day out of 10, and then she said she wished she was at school right then, so I figured that basically answered my question. ;-)

Here's to a great school year ahead!

I can't believe they're off again and another school year has begun! The girls were the same as Brynn with not really needing anything for supplies. I guess we had enough pencils and notebooks around here. Elise did get some note cards for her speech class and studying bio terms and such. Great picture of Brynn & co in the yearbook! I love the desks in Clara's classroom - the storage on the side is cool. Oliver's is just kind of cavernous. Fun to see the pictures her teacher sent and to hear about their first day and goals for the year! You got this, girls!

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
