Hanging in there...

01.19.08

In her bassinett.

She has been in her bassinett now for about 9 hours. She is hanging in there, but not by too much. They are checking her temperature every hour. If she falls below 97.7 degrees twice, she is done and has to go back into the incubator. She has hit 97.7 once already. She has kind of been hovering around 98 degrees. If she has to go back into the incubator, it will probably be another week in the hospital. When they have to put them back in the incubators after they've failed in recovery, it is 48 hours before they'll at least even try to start weaning back out of the incubator again. Then, we can figure another 48 for weaning and another 48 for recovery. So, we are praying that she does well over the next 24 hours. They have on her a onesie, a sleeper, a sleep sack and a blanket. She is quite toasty when we're holding her. We just got back from the hospital now,

and I think Dana and I were both almost contemplating sleeping the night there and just holding her to make sure she stays warm. Her nurses are doing everything they can to keep her from failing. The nurse we have tonight runs her wipes under warm water to warm them up when she changes her diaper. Brynn is also now on 24-calorie supplement. Meaning, whenever she has a bottle, whether it's breast milk or formula, they supplement it with the additional calories. Otherwise, I can just continue to breastfeed her as normal, and then they just add the calories when I'm not there, or if she takes more from a bottle after nursing. The other issue she's working on is continuing to gain weight, so the doctor is hoping she'll pack on the pounds with the increased calories in her diet. We are trying to stay positive for her to still come home Monday, but we're also trying not to get our hopes up. Thank you again to all those praying for Brynn to be healthy and strong, and to come home soon!

Papa cuddling with Brynn, trying to keep her toasty!

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
