Swan Lake 2012

We returned to Swan Lake again this year for another week of vacation. We were again able to borrow Dana's parents' camper to use at the resort which works out so nicely. (Thanks again to Holly and Kevin for letting us use it all week!) We  had really good weather with the exception of a couple of windy days, but no rain.

This year I talked Dana into renting a pontoon so we could tool around the lake a little and try to catch some sunnies for me! We got skunked big time, though. Oh well, we still had fun out there. Grandpa and Grandma came along, too.

The resort put in a fancy new playground set this year, so of course we spent a lot of time over there. Brynn was into riding my jet ski with me a lot more this year which was really fun. We rode jet ski every day and the only time I rode mine alone was when I put it into the water when we arrived.

With all the time she spends playing outside on a daily basis, plus this week outside, she has gotten quite tan. Or as she says, "the sun has really made me grey." Grey, tan, close enough. Ha.

We'll be back again next year for sure.

Notice the pinky? Total Brynnie.

We got ourselves a little camping grill. It was very handy.

I think this was day two of these braids. I happened to mention to her that Grandma Laurie put my hair in piggy braids a lot when I was a little girl, so she asked Grandma Holly to do her hair like that - and then wouldn't let me wash them out for three days! Heck, that's what vacation's all about, right? Although you wouldn't know it from her dirty face here, I did wash the rest of her body. :-)

We were so proud of Brynnie, and she was of herself, too....she had been afraid to climb up this ladder on the playset all by herself, and finally she got brave enough to tackle it alone. It was great to watch her face and see how excited she was to have overcome a fear of something and accomplish what she wanted to do, even if it was something as simple as climbing up the ladder at the playground.

Then, since she had gotten so brave, she told Daddy she would help him up by holding his hand. ;-)

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
