Memorial Weekend

Saturday morning snuggles while waiting for the rest of the fam to get up to go to the lake.

More sleepiness. Clara wanted to play inside on Saturday at my parents' lake while everyone was outside. I had asked her a couple of times if she wanted to go back out with everyone else, but she said she didn't want to. Before too long, she crawled up on the couch to lie next to me and before I knew it, we had both fallen asleep.

Meanwhile, Brynn and Reagan were having fun swimming off the pontoon in the middle of the lake.

Time for s'mores!

The girls were trying to get some last-minute fishing in before it was time to call it a night.

Sunday morning we headed from Lake 15 over to Dead Lake to spend the day with Dana's parents. Clara covered herself up and declared that she was 'already tired.'

She didn't fall asleep on Sunday at all, but instead went fishing with the guys.

The girls stayed behind at the lake and Dana and I came home so we could get some things done today which included prepping the kitchen cabinets for the painters tomorrow. By the time we got home, I didn't feel like doing much...apparently after doing nothing already all day! So, I finished the book I had started earlier in the day out on the deck.

The girls came home tonight after a day at the lake with Grandpa and Grandma.

As it got closer to Memorial weekend I noticed the cemetery on University and 52nd had put up a nice display of flags. I was surprised to see the full size ones as typically I have only seen cemeteries put out the shorter type. It looked so nice and reminded me of my Grandpa Don, so I wanted to try and get down there to take some pictures. I headed down on my bike late this afternoon and was able to get a few shots. There were several people in the cemetery, of course, and it was nice to see all the flowers people put out.

There is another cemetery across the road behind our house, a much smaller one, but I noticed they were having a little ceremony of sorts out there this morning including a 21-gun salute.

Love that picture of Brynn & Reagan on the dock, and Clara looks so grown up in the one of her eating her s'more.

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
