Visit to Uncle Lester + Aunt Shelly's

Last weekend we road tripped down to uncle Lester and aunt Shelly's house for a quick visit before we headed back so Clara could attend a friend's birthday party.

The girls were off of school Thursday and Friday for teacher's convention break and I took Friday off of work, so we started heading south on Friday morning. Dana stayed behind as he wasn't feel well, unfortunately.

Clara had brought her monkeys to introduce them to Shelly's monkeys.

Lots of monkey business!

Brynn loves visiting small towns like Fessenden and Wolsey (where Lester and Shelly live) because everyone is so friendly and knows one another and you can get everywhere around town on foot (or if not on foot, then very quickly by car). So, we were on a walk, stretching our legs from the car ride and taking advantage of the nice weather on Friday afternoon, when we found the Buzz'n Coffee Shop. Shel had told us about it and it did not disappoint. They not only sell coffee, but treats and ice cream as well.

Clara enjoyed the ice cream while playing with the play set they had there.

They also had one of those little library houses out in front and Clara found a book from the  Magic Tree House series which she has read at school. She was super excited.

Pretty soon after we got back from the coffee shop, it was time to start on the chimichangas! Brynn made her famous guacamole.

Clara and I were on frying duty.

What a treat! They were so yummy. Then the neighborhood cat, Boots, came by for a visit.

Thanks for having us, Shelly and Lester! Had a great time as always! 💜

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Halloween 2025

Happy Halloween! We did trick-or-treating at my office again and celebrated National Cat Day a couple of days late. Unicorn making magic happen! The kids and Freddy. We got a little bit of a late start around 7:30. We went to a neighborhood near the high school where several of Clara's friends live. We stopped at Micah's house to say hi and another schoolmate happened to be over as well. We got to visiting too long and by the time we headed back out, some houses either had run out of candy (including Micah's, where they went through 600 pieces his mom said) or were already done for the night. But, we still got around to several. It had just gotten done raining and the wind was cold, so I didn't care to be out too long myself. Clara asked to have another post-Halloween party this year and Brynn planned and executed the whole thing. One of our fav parts was the missing children posters which were all the guests. Green Army Man, Clara Barton, Luna Lovegood (from Harry Pott...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
