Cousin Camp 2023

Cousin Camp 2023: On The Prairie kicked off last Friday! This year's theme threw it back to older times on the prairie. It was a super fun theme with butter churning, doing laundry with a wash board and clothes line, root beer floats and old fashioned games like gunny sack races, capture the flag and three-legged races.

We headed toward camp on Thursday...

Junior Camp Counselors

Welcome to Cousin Camp 2023! Introductions and sharing what our fav ice cream flavor is.

Signing this year's shirts. Brynn designed the logo and it turned out great. Camp started out pretty chilly on Friday afternoon.

Making butter was super cool and all the kids seemed to really get a kick out of it. Everyone tried their hand at churning. It turned out really tasty too!

We headed by ATV (pretending they were horses) to the Hurd Round House for games, a picnic dinner and the talent show.

Clara and Sierra shared some of the Laura Ingalls Wilder story for the talent show, dressed for the part.

So much talent displayed!

Reagan, Elise and Brynn corralled the junior counselors for their 'magic trick,' which was actually a ruse to pelt them with paint balloons.

Revenge!

The 10 and under crowd played chubby bunny and had s'mores while the older kids set up camp at a nearby farm for the night.

The next morning we all headed out to the camp site to have breakfast.

Counselor pic!

After breakfast we kicked off a camp favorite: fear factor food challenge. These kids are getting more and more difficult to take down each year!

We wrapped up with a game of kickball and lunch!

Video recap!

Mucho thanks to Tessa for putting all the work into making cousin camp a success for another year! (And for many of these photos).

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Halloween 2025

Happy Halloween! We did trick-or-treating at my office again and celebrated National Cat Day a couple of days late. Unicorn making magic happen! The kids and Freddy. We got a little bit of a late start around 7:30. We went to a neighborhood near the high school where several of Clara's friends live. We stopped at Micah's house to say hi and another schoolmate happened to be over as well. We got to visiting too long and by the time we headed back out, some houses either had run out of candy (including Micah's, where they went through 600 pieces his mom said) or were already done for the night. But, we still got around to several. It had just gotten done raining and the wind was cold, so I didn't care to be out too long myself. Clara asked to have another post-Halloween party this year and Brynn planned and executed the whole thing. One of our fav parts was the missing children posters which were all the guests. Green Army Man, Clara Barton, Luna Lovegood (from Harry Pott...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
