Daddy's Girl

We had another great weekend at home. And now Dana and Brynn are home together tomorrow, as Brynn's school is closed for Veteran's Day. She has big plans for them which include going to the mall, eating out at Lucy's (our fav Chinese restaurant) and getting smoothies at McDonald's. Sounds like a great day!

Brynn has been practicing her reading a lot lately and I had wanted to get some pictures of her reading from her early-reader library book she had brought home. I am amazed at how far she has come. She gets frustrated pretty easily, but at least now she is more motivated and wants to sound out words on her own, whereas before when it was just me trying to get her to read, she just wanted me to do it. Thank you, school! :-) I have always thought one of the best things about being a parent is watching your child learn new things, and watching Brynn learn how to read has been no exception for me. 

I'm unsure if Brynn did this worksheet in school or at HopeKids asp, but it's all about Brynn. Some of her answers were so cute. We asked her where she liked to go camping and she specified Swan Lake...of course!


 A couple of weeks ago it was Dine with Dads day at Brynn's school. Dana got to see her play for a bit during recess before they went in for lunch. It was so funny to hear him recount their time together at school. He said it's so chaotic during the lunch rush to get to the cafeteria. Brynn was pointing at everything and explaining along the way, and Dana couldn't hear any of it because of all the kids and noise.

 When we were at my parents' a couple of weeks ago, my mom helped Brynn write up a list of all the Disney princes. This weekend Brynn was playing school (with me as the student) and I noticed later she must have thought Grandma forgot to list a prince. ;-) he he. So cute.



Brynn just thinks Dana is the strongest and smartest person she knows. Well, he could very well be, I suppose! She's always saying things like "Dad! You're the strongest in the world!" or "Dad, you are a genius!" This weekend we came upon Dana as he was walking out of our bedroom and he let out kind of an tired sigh and she asked him, "Dad, are you tired out from your strength?" LOL.



Brynn loves to paint, so on Friday night she was busy painting princess laptops on some cardboard.





 


I just love to overhear Brynn playing; she has such an imagination. Today I heard her playing with her Polly Pocket and poor Polly must have gotten lost because I heard in an announcement-style of voice:

"....do you know Polly Pocket? She is a little girl and her name is Polly. And she has a pocket. That is why they call her Polly Pocket..." And then she proceeded to describe her with brown hair and the rest of her features. ha.

Ooh so so cute! Where to start? How creative of her with those little laptops. Wowza her locker is a sight! I bet she loved having Dana come to her school. Hehe on the Polly pocket convo and I am dying over her comment to Dana about being tired out because of his strength. Ha! Such a great update!!

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. Halloween 2025

Happy Halloween! We did trick-or-treating at my office again and celebrated National Cat Day a couple of days late. Unicorn making magic happen! The kids and Freddy. We got a little bit of a late start around 7:30. We went to a neighborhood near the high school where several of Clara's friends live. We stopped at Micah's house to say hi and another schoolmate happened to be over as well. We got to visiting too long and by the time we headed back out, some houses either had run out of candy (including Micah's, where they went through 600 pieces his mom said) or were already done for the night. But, we still got around to several. It had just gotten done raining and the wind was cold, so I didn't care to be out too long myself. Clara asked to have another post-Halloween party this year and Brynn planned and executed the whole thing. One of our fav parts was the missing children posters which were all the guests.
