Thanksgiving 2013

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday again this year. We hosted at our house and both sets of our parents and Tessa and her family were able to come celebrate with us. We did a brunch in the morning this time, instead of our usual appetizer spread. 

Dana went to Wal-mart and Best Buy last night at 11:00, but other than that, Holly and Kevin and Tessa and I went during the morning/day time this year. It really wasn't too crazy when we were out.

I'm hoping to talk Dana into putting up the tree tomorrow. :-) 

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I know our family certainly has much to be thankful for.

A blog update note: It is around this time every year during Thanksgiving and in sitting down and writing our Christmas letter that I sit back and reflect on the past year. 2013 was an awesome year! So, as I thought about all the fun things we did this past year as a family (and even just Dana and I together and individually), I wanted to shift the focus of the blog to more of a family theme (versus more centered on just Brynn), which is actually what the name of the blog is anyway, I guess! For example, this post has more pics of Dana and me, and Brynn is only actually in one of them; although I know people probably don't like to stare at us as much as they do Brynn. :-) I felt when I started the blog, it was because of Brynn and for everyone to see updates on her, but at this point it feels like it's been naturally gravitating toward other family happenings, too. I like to have a place to share my thoughts as a mother and wife and this feeling has gotten stronger for me this year as Brynn has started school when it's hard for me to contain my excitement of watching her learn! And I would have liked to post the pics of my sister's and my trip to New England, but since I have always been really focused on Brynn on here, I didn't post anything at that time. Anyway, hopefully no one will mind more of my ramblings and musings and photos of Dana and me, etc. I love when people comment on the blog, so if you think this stinks, feel free to let me know! Okay, on to the Thanksgiving pics....

Clara's Recital + Scouting Event + XaFriendsgiving

I was in full fall mode watching 'When Harry Met Sally" in my turkey leg slippers the other night. Dana and I went out to eat at Granite City on Friday night and I think I found my signature cocktail for Christmas. It's called Snow on the Beach and it was so pretty and tasted really good! Saturday morning Clara had her piano recital and did a great job! Thank you to sister Brynn and the grandparents for coming. After lunch with everyone (family, not the other piano students), she was off to the next thing which was  a Scouting event at NDSU. She had to miss the morning session because of the recital, but in the afternoon they made a tool box. It turned out great. Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. January Recap

Right before Christmas break was done, Brynn and  I went downtown to Nichole's for some graduation planning. Making lefse! Clara finished up her time in robotics league with a presentation of the robots and mission that she and her partner/friend, Elizabeth, had been working on. Here's a video compilation of two of the missions they presented. It was so cool. I especially liked the one that picked up the rocks. Some of Brynn's recent drawings. Bedtime snuggles. 💜 I was messaging with Clara's teacher to see if he could let her know that Brynn would pick her up from school one of the very cold days last week. He wrote me back to confirm Clara received the message. I asked Clara when she got home if she wrote that last sentence. Haha. Clara had her first swim meet on Saturday, which was a 'home meet,' hosted by Clara's team, the Red Dragons at Moorhead High School.
