HopeKids Halloween Party

Today the HopeKids ASP had a Halloween Party for the kids. Brynn said moms could come too (although I didn't receive an 'official' invite from the staff). So, Clara and I kind of crashed the party as it turned out I was the only mom there really! There was one dad who was there as well, but I couldn't tell if he had been invited by his child or if he just came at the time of the party to pick his kid up and ended up staying. Ha. It was fun, though, and so nice of the staff to do something like that. The students are not allowed to wear their costumes at Brynn's school, but they do host a Halloween party in the evening where they can wear their costumes, typically somewhere near the 31st. This year it is on Friday and I think Brynn does plan on going.

Anyway, on to the pictures! They played Candy Corn Bingo for some fun prizes:

Clara didn't want to be missing out. All the 'school-agers' seemed pretty enamored with her.

Brynn dressed up as a 'scary princess' or something like that, I think. The staff instructed the kids to not wear anything scary and Brynn was concerned her Maleficent horns would be too scary, so she opted for the crown instead. I thought Rosha was a kitty, but Brynn told me she was something else...some other animal that I can think of now. A raccoon or something, I thought she said.

Watching the big girls.

Patiently watching the big girls. Aww, I think she just looks so sweet in this picture, sitting with her hands all folded in her lap.

This was some type of musical chairs game:

We are all getting very excited for the *real* Halloween! The cousins are coming trick-or-treating with us this year and we have a fun little party planned with them before we head out trick-or-treating. The weather is supposed to be decent, so hopefully we won't have to bundle the kids up too much so that you can still tell what their costumes are.

Hahaha, party crashers! Clara was apparently entranced, while Rosha looked unimpressed.

Happy 10th Birthday, Clara!

Clara made a countdown chain to her 10th birthday. We baked a red velvet cake for her family party and chocolate cupcakes for her friend party. She looks so tall in some of these pics! Izabell's boyfriend, Neil, and Clara share the same birthday, so they all went out for lunch on their actual birthday on the 2nd. And then Neil had to get a tour of the Clara Express. Dana was in charge of getting balloons for the party and I sent him to Dollar Tree which apparently doesn't fill latex balloons, only Mylar. Dana "just knew" he had gotten the 'wrong' ones, and called me in a fit of rage over it and then followed up with this photo. haha. It all worked out just fine for Clara's ninja themed parties and I was able to pick up a few more black latex balloons from Cash Wise on my way home from work. Clara had already started partying at Prairie Joy's birthday party the night before, so I think she was short on sleep. I couldn't find her when I got home on F...

Mom + Brynn Take Chicago 2024

Brynn and I were very excited to embark on our mother-daughter trip to Chicago this week. We had gifted Brynn part of the trip as her sweet 16 birthday gift. We flew direct out of Fargo on Wednesday. We stayed at the Grand Plaza apartments on State Street in a VRBO rental. We loved it there! The building had an outdoor rooftop pool, library, gaming/movie room and gym on the 9th floor. This was us looking down from our 50th floor balcony. I refused to go to the edge of the balcony. Blech. (Photo credit: Brynn on this one!) Here are a few pics of inside the apartment that I hawked off of the VRBO listing. We got our things settled and ran next door to a Jewel Osco grocery for a few things and then got ready for dinner at River Roast along the Chicago River. It was very good and beautiful weather. I think Brynn said this was her favorite place that we ate at. Our waiter Jorge brought Brynn a carrot cake when we said we were celebrating Brynn's birthday on the trip. We came back to the...

Back to School 2024

Brynn had very minimal school supplies that she needed, of course, so she took care of hers on her own and just Clara and I tackled the fourth grade list. How Brynn and Hubert were preparing for school starting. Haha. They made the yearbook! Clara was excited that she will have her first grade teacher again for fourth grade. Back-to-school night was on Monday. She got to see who else was going to be in her class and put away her supplies, etc. Today was the official first day! Brynn came home over her lunch break and things seemed to be going pretty well at that point, and then she only had one more class before she was done for the day. She has last period off again this year, so she was glad for that. She plans to continue working at her part-time job throughout the school year. Clara reported a great first day! Her teacher shared some photos. We did have time during and after dinner to chat about the day more and Brynn said her goal for this school year - aside from the obvious of d...
