Retirement Party, VBX, Haircut

Silly Clara. These were some random pics I had on my phone of her.

Talking to her baby whom she covered up with a dryer sheet.

No words for this one! Yikes!

Looking for something.

Last Saturday we celebrated Grandpa and Grandma Froemming's dual retirement with a party at the farm. It ended up being such a great day with the weather and such a nice turnout of people. Unfortunately I hardly got any pictures as it seemed I kept pretty busy with Clara and visiting with people. However, John was kind enough to take pictures, so he took the one below with the cake. Brynn did make a nice embellishment for party decor. Congrats, Kevin and Holly!

This past week was VBX, as they call it at our church. It stood for Vacation Bible Xperience. Each year they have a super fun theme in which all the pastors dress in full costume and just get really into it. Other years' themes included Super Mario Brothers and Wizard of Oz. This year's theme was Star Explorers, sort of modeled after Star Wars. The cast of characters were Pizza the Hut, Princess Photon, Chew Bock Bock (a giant chicken), and a robot, JC16. Since Brynn is already at Hope all day every day during the summer weeks, she has not had much interest in spending all evening there as well for VBS, as it runs from 5:45 to 8:00 pm. However, she knew the fun themes they've done before and thought it would be fun to give it a try this year. Each year when we see them getting prepared for it and I see the pictures of the pastors dressed up on Facebook, I am just amazed at everything they put into it. This year was no exception, and Brynn is so glad she decided to participate. Here are some pics that I took just with my camera and some I hijacked from the church's Facebook page, etc. Hope South Campus (which is the one we attend; there is a North campus as well) has a lot of younger families in their membership, hence a lot of children in Sunday School. It was just amazing to see how many kids they have attend VBX.

They had confetti canons the second night! WOW!

Brynn with her light saber and JC16 robot.

Pastor Paul and some of the kids. Note his light-up shoes. Cool!

Each night, Brynn received a card with a video link to watch. Each video featured a message from one of  pastors and included a message from the lesson topic from that day, along with a discussion question to do with your family. In the below picture, Brynn was contemplating what the hardest thing she's ever had to do was. I think she decided that it was having to calm herself down after she accidentally got off the bus at our house on an 'off' day when I didn't leave work early and she should have kept riding on to Hope to go there.

These two video links were from Facebook, so I don't know how well they'll work or come up, but the first one is a song they sang on the last day/today and then more confetti canons to cap off the week. You can't see Brynn in either of them, but I just loved the kids' energy in each one.

I am a little out of order here as I'll back up to yesterday and Brynn's hair cut. We all loved her long hair, but not so much on the constant tangles. It is so thick and was so long, it had gotten very difficult to manage, especially since Brynn has such a sensitive head, apparently. So, after many recent nights of tears and frustration with brushing, I had suggested again that she cut it. She finally relented and ended up really pushing me to make an appointment for her. She knew the minimum to donate hair to Locks of Love is 10". We were fairly sure she had enough to donate if she wanted. She was on the fence, and I think up until the night before her appointment, she didn't really understand fully what they do with the donated hair. So, once we talked about that more and even remembered all the adults in our lives who've battled cancer, it was more and more on her heart to donate. I told her we'll just wait to make a final decision once we get to the salon and they measure to see where she'd be at with 10" off.

The before.

Measuring out 10". She could have gone 12" off, but that wouldn't have left her with a lot of hair!
Once she saw that it would still be a length that she'd be happy with, she decided go ahead with the donation. Ashley, the stylist, has done Brynn's hair several times before for the Butterfly Ball, and is really great. She talked to Brynn about how special it is to donate your hair and encouraged her to do it.

There it goes! Ashley braided it and then clipped off the braid to save.

Of course Mom was trying not to get all emotional. Uffda.

It really did turn out cute on her and she is so glad she decided to donate and she was happy with how the cut turned out as well. She's all set for summer now.
The after!

Oh, Clara. Here are some more silly pics of her from this past week:

I was giving Dana a hug in the kitchen tonight and she had to come for a group hug. She's so lovey.

Last night she was rocking her baby in the kitchen and then I heard her softly go "shhh" to the baby. So sweet.

Birds can be very shocking! Clara loves to point out birds (which she usually calls ducks, but they are just ordinary robins). There have been a lot around our yard lately. She was on her 'new' trike that we brought back from Grandpa & Grandma Froemming's house and bird watching. She is quite the demon on that thing! She can't really maneuver the pedals yet, so she just goes Fred Flintstone style and then goes like a bat out of heck on reverse. Ha.

Getting the hang of 'thumb's up!' haha.

Whenever she thinks something's funny or, here again she spotted another bird, she cups her hand over her mouth and laughs. It cracks me up.

Checking up on Dad. "What's that?" she wanted to know.

Brynn's friend Belle came over to play for a bit after VBX tonight.

Great pics! I was hoping for an update on the big hair donation. Way to go, Brynn! Oh my, Clara is such a cutie. What a good capture of the photo where she's got her hand over her mouth laughing. And she is so sweet with her babies.

Happy 10th Birthday, Clara!

Clara made a countdown chain to her 10th birthday. We baked a red velvet cake for her family party and chocolate cupcakes for her friend party. She looks so tall in some of these pics! Izabell's boyfriend, Neil, and Clara share the same birthday, so they all went out for lunch on their actual birthday on the 2nd. And then Neil had to get a tour of the Clara Express. Dana was in charge of getting balloons for the party and I sent him to Dollar Tree which apparently doesn't fill latex balloons, only Mylar. Dana "just knew" he had gotten the 'wrong' ones, and called me in a fit of rage over it and then followed up with this photo. haha. It all worked out just fine for Clara's ninja themed parties and I was able to pick up a few more black latex balloons from Cash Wise on my way home from work. Clara had already started partying at Prairie Joy's birthday party the night before, so I think she was short on sleep. I couldn't find her when I got home on F...

Mom + Brynn Take Chicago 2024

Brynn and I were very excited to embark on our mother-daughter trip to Chicago this week. We had gifted Brynn part of the trip as her sweet 16 birthday gift. We flew direct out of Fargo on Wednesday. We stayed at the Grand Plaza apartments on State Street in a VRBO rental. We loved it there! The building had an outdoor rooftop pool, library, gaming/movie room and gym on the 9th floor. This was us looking down from our 50th floor balcony. I refused to go to the edge of the balcony. Blech. (Photo credit: Brynn on this one!) Here are a few pics of inside the apartment that I hawked off of the VRBO listing. We got our things settled and ran next door to a Jewel Osco grocery for a few things and then got ready for dinner at River Roast along the Chicago River. It was very good and beautiful weather. I think Brynn said this was her favorite place that we ate at. Our waiter Jorge brought Brynn a carrot cake when we said we were celebrating Brynn's birthday on the trip. We came back to the...

May Happenings + More Birthday Celebration + Northern Lights + Mother's Day

S'mores on the deck... We got Brynn's team tennis pics back. They turned out great! I had to get a couple of pins and magnets. I should have taken a pic of Hubert and me spectating at one of her games last week as Hubert was sporting his pin. :-) We three girls played last week during a nice evening. Clara's class is doing an alphabet countdown to the last day of school. J was joke day. And Clara loves to share jokes with her teacher. She made her own joke book to bring. Cindy took Dad and me out to lunch for our birthdays last Thursday. It was such a fun time and Dad and I each got a cookie skillet for being the birthday kids! So delish. We went to Granite City. Always good! Dana and I went to Sartell, MN on Thursday night and arrived late. We stopped over at the after party of the groom's dinner for our friends getting married on Friday. I snagged their kitty for a snuggle. Roger and I were the photographers for the wedding which was beautiful. We had such a good tim...
