Back to School

Sister love!

Last week Clara was really into having Brynn put her to bed. Brynn was rocking her after she read Clara her bedtime story.

The girls were off to Dead Lake on Friday to have one last hurrah before school starts on Thursday of this week.

Christel came to visit for the weekend and we had a fun time out on the town on Friday night. While at The Toasted Frog we decided to do a pizza tour around downtown. This was our first pizza at The Frog. It was sooo good.

Our second stop was Blackbird Woodfire. I love their Lumberjack pizza there.

By the time we got to Rhombus Guys, we were kind of getting pizza-ed out. There are actually two other really good pizza places downtown that we could have included in the tour, but we could only handle so much. So, we opted for the s'mores pizza at Rhombus which was also really good.

The Friday night rooftop movie was Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Winner! I love that movie!

I missed the actual solar eclipse yesterday, but we celebrated at my office with eclipse cookies!

Though it was nice to get a good start on packing this weekend and we had fun going out to eat a lot, by last night I was really sad missing the girls. It seemed like they were gone such a long time. I know they had fun, though. (Thanks again to Grandpa and Grandma for having them!) Grandpa and Grandma dropped them off at Hope this morning so we finally saw them when we got home after work today. We had a lot of good kisses and squeezes.

Brynn starts school on Thursday of this week, so she made it back home just in time for back to school night tonight. With our move, she will actually be zoned for a different school, closer to the new house, of course. The schools told us she was welcome to start the school year at either school. We even went last week to tour Bennett (the other school), but alas the fear of change won out and she will be starting the school year at Centennial. :-) If she wants to stay at Centennial once we move, we'll need to petition for her to do so. We'll see how it all goes once we move as I will need to drop her off each day then.

She got her school supplies put away in her desk tonight. She was really shy about me taking any pictures....or maybe it was stubbornness.

Checking to see if I'm still stalking her with my camera. Of course I was!

She has a male teacher for the first time, Mr. Johnson. He said he had been teaching at Centennial for 18 years. He seemed very nice and Brynn already said she really likes him. She noticed from the desk name tags a few familiar classmates.

We went to put her paint  shirt in her locker and her third grade teacher, Mrs. Smith, saw Brynn and had to come give her a big hug. Brynn had lamented to me several times throughout the summer how she wished she could have Mrs. Smith again this year. I think she'll enjoy being in Mr. Johnson's class though too.

Again with dodging my camera. Stinker.

Mrs. Hoots, the art teacher, put up this neat collage that the kids could paint as they were passing through. Brynn grabbed a brush and added her touch to it. A couple of her friends from Hope noticed her; they were pretty excited to see one another.

They were serving Dippin' Dots outside, so we snagged a bowl. Then we took an extra couple of minutes to snap a pic in front of the school sign. This is the first year I've gotten a pic of her with the sign which now I am kicking myself that I hadn't done before because I think it would have been so neat to see how much she's grown.

Brynn has been into her bracelet bands again this summer.

Brynn is really excited for school to start. I'm glad that she is looking forward to it. More pics to come from the first day!

Love that sister pic at the top of the post! I don't think I've ever ordered pizza at the Toasted Frog; looks like I'll have to try it next time I'm there. The desks in Brynn's classroom are huge! Ben's was so little, he said he barely fit in it and the classroom aide overheard him and said they can actually get the janitor to adjust it so he fits in it better, ha. That was such a sweet picture of Brynn & her teacher from last year. And what a neat idea that art project on the wall was. So cool. And always nice to see familiar faces. I hope Brynn has a great first day! Can't wait to hear all about it on Thursday!

Fall Things + Dana's Hunting Trip

Clara and I walked over to the high school for a boys' soccer game. They were pretty impressive to watch. Elise and Clara had fun raking leaves and Grandpa and Grandma's lake. Well, I know Clara had a great time for sure. I can't remember if I had posted that Dana did away with the garden and planted grass where it once was. So, Clara mowed that section. It was a perfect size for her to tackle. She might have found herself a summer job already. An amazing double rainbow! Thank you to those who donated for Clara's school walk-a-thon which took place last Monday. Dana and I were able to go watch and then joined in for some laps as well. Benny the Eagle was out there cheering the kids on too. Dana was busy making monster cookies for his annual hunting trip up north with his Dad and family friends. He kindly left some behind for us...which are long since gone now. :-) Grandma Holly came up while the guys were gone and took Clara shopping and the girls for lunch on Saturday

Thanksgiving 2023

The kids rolled out and baked sugar cookies for Thanksgiving. We finished our thankful pumpkin. I saw this in the store and given the season, it took me right back to my Grandma D's house on Thanksgiving and the bowl of walnuts she'd have on her table with the nutcracker. I wanted to buy it just for nostalgia purposes. Cora and Clara made these adorable turkey crafts at the crafternoon at the library.  On Tuesday we went downtown for the tree lighting at Broadway Square. Abby, Hubert's sister, joined us as well. She just turned 10, so she got along pretty well with Clara. They had s'mores kits so we had to toast some mallows right away. I love how Clara's marshmallow is completely ablaze and she's still posing for the photo. Hahaha. We had to visit the reindeer too. I made them do jazz hands. And then, of course, we had to hit up Blackbird afterward. Our Wednesday morning XaBeat class. We were feelin' pretty festive. The girls had Wednesday off from school,

May Day + My Birthday + Star Wars Day

Brynn put together our May Day baskets and did a fantastic job. Clara and I did the deliveries... And we received one as well with these beautiful flowers. It was from Clara's friend, Cora, and her fam. We went out to dinner as a family to celebrate my birthday on Wednesday to best accommodate schedules this week. I got to open my cards and gifts when we got home. I had picked up a slice of puppy chow cake at Sonder Bakehouse so we all shared that. Then Brynn and I went out to play a little tennis. It was a beautiful day outside. I had taken Friday (my actual birthday) off of work and Tessa came up to have brunch with me. We had Black Coffee + Waffle Bar. It was so fun. Then May did my hair as it was overdue for a cut and color. Dana and I were able to go out just us two while Brynn took Clara to her school fun night...not only that, but Brynn also volunteered to sell tickets/wristbands (I was originally going to do it) so that I didn't have to and could go out. 💜 I had a coup
