School's out!

I think this was a couple of weekends ago the girls made some brownies...apparently just for Dana and me. ;-) Truth be told, I'm pretty sure I did end up eating most of them.

Last Friday I surprised Brynn during lunch at school. She was very surprised... and not in a good way at first as she seemed to think that I must there to deliver bad news or something like that. Once she realized I just wanted to sit with her while she had lunch, she was excited. We sat together with her friend, Addie.

Speaking of friends...last weekend the girls were at Dead Lake so Dana and I went out with Dana's co-worker and his wife. Not only did Kaily suggest Olive Garden for dinner, they then invited us over to their house in which we made a deal that we'd all be in our sweats. We proceeded to play ping pong, visit, listen to 90s rap and snuggle their huge cat until late that night. Good times!

Proof of Dana petting a cat!

McLovin' is the kitty's name; he's so big and soft!

Last Sunday we rode our bikes to Bennett Elementary to play on their playground. Clara is just now getting into riding Brynn's old bike with training wheels. She really gets going on there and I don't think it will be too terribly long that she'll have the training wheels on. In fact, on our way back home she had to go up a pretty good incline and she kept backing up to take a better run at getting up the hill. She has such perseverance; she didn't want me to help give her a push or anything. And then during what must have been about the third or fourth try she says "pedal, Clara!" Haha.

I've been getting up again in the mornings to run. :-/ (After a three-year hiatus!  Uff!) Anyhow, of course it has been such nice weather these past couple of weeks. The sun was especially pretty the other morning, so I had to stop and snap a few pics along the way with my phone.

I run through the nearby neighborhood of Briarwood. It's really quiet in there and there is this little creek that runs through the middle of it which you can kind of see in the below pic.

I was surprised by a deer one morning. You can hardly see it just to the right of the light post there.

Back home - our snow crabs are in full bloom! I love it. This picture doesn't even do justice to what they look like in person.

On the second to last day of school when I dropped Brynn off we noticed the principal had relocated his office up on the roof one last time. And it truly is one last time for him because he is retiring this year. He was such a great principal. Whenever I would happen to pick up Brynn from school at the end of the day, you could always find him out there helping the kids find their way to the buses. And so many kids were always giving him hugs. When I went to Muffins for Moms earlier this month, I was surprised to find him directing traffic in the rain.

Ice cream social at Hope on Wednesday...

*Sniffles alert! Brynn's last day of elementary school was yesterday. She had a great experience at Centennial and we were so glad she was able to finish out her elementary education there, even after we moved to a different school zone. She is nervous for middle school, but I think she'll do great. She wants to try volleyball and basketball and plans to continue choir as well. She will no longer go to Hope after school, but instead ride the bus home.

This summer she'll be attending most of the summer camp at Hope and they even asked her to be a junior leader since she is one of, if not the, oldest in the group. So, she is super stoked about that.

As I'm sure most of you know, Clara misses the cut off to attend Kindergarten this year by a few days. I believe you need to be five years old by July 28 or somewhere around there. But, she will start at Bennett near our house, rather than attend Centennial, next year.

We had to celebrate the last day of school with some ice cream, of course!

Here's to a great summer! We did head out to the orchard to take pics on Wednesday night, so I will try to get those posted soon. On Sunday I'm off to New Orleans for a work conference that we're exhibiting at and won't be back until Thursday, so we'll see how far I get on pics tomorrow!

Happy 10th Birthday, Clara!

Clara made a countdown chain to her 10th birthday. We baked a red velvet cake for her family party and chocolate cupcakes for her friend party. She looks so tall in some of these pics! Izabell's boyfriend, Neil, and Clara share the same birthday, so they all went out for lunch on their actual birthday on the 2nd. And then Neil had to get a tour of the Clara Express. Dana was in charge of getting balloons for the party and I sent him to Dollar Tree which apparently doesn't fill latex balloons, only Mylar. Dana "just knew" he had gotten the 'wrong' ones, and called me in a fit of rage over it and then followed up with this photo. haha. It all worked out just fine for Clara's ninja themed parties and I was able to pick up a few more black latex balloons from Cash Wise on my way home from work. Clara had already started partying at Prairie Joy's birthday party the night before, so I think she was short on sleep. I couldn't find her when I got home on F...

Mom + Brynn Take Chicago 2024

Brynn and I were very excited to embark on our mother-daughter trip to Chicago this week. We had gifted Brynn part of the trip as her sweet 16 birthday gift. We flew direct out of Fargo on Wednesday. We stayed at the Grand Plaza apartments on State Street in a VRBO rental. We loved it there! The building had an outdoor rooftop pool, library, gaming/movie room and gym on the 9th floor. This was us looking down from our 50th floor balcony. I refused to go to the edge of the balcony. Blech. (Photo credit: Brynn on this one!) Here are a few pics of inside the apartment that I hawked off of the VRBO listing. We got our things settled and ran next door to a Jewel Osco grocery for a few things and then got ready for dinner at River Roast along the Chicago River. It was very good and beautiful weather. I think Brynn said this was her favorite place that we ate at. Our waiter Jorge brought Brynn a carrot cake when we said we were celebrating Brynn's birthday on the trip. We came back to the...

May Happenings + More Birthday Celebration + Northern Lights + Mother's Day

S'mores on the deck... We got Brynn's team tennis pics back. They turned out great! I had to get a couple of pins and magnets. I should have taken a pic of Hubert and me spectating at one of her games last week as Hubert was sporting his pin. :-) We three girls played last week during a nice evening. Clara's class is doing an alphabet countdown to the last day of school. J was joke day. And Clara loves to share jokes with her teacher. She made her own joke book to bring. Cindy took Dad and me out to lunch for our birthdays last Thursday. It was such a fun time and Dad and I each got a cookie skillet for being the birthday kids! So delish. We went to Granite City. Always good! Dana and I went to Sartell, MN on Thursday night and arrived late. We stopped over at the after party of the groom's dinner for our friends getting married on Friday. I snagged their kitty for a snuggle. Roger and I were the photographers for the wedding which was beautiful. We had such a good tim...
