Dead Lake Weekend

This year our planned extended weekend at Dead Lake was this past weekend. The forecast wasn't very promising, but we decided to go for it and left on Friday morning. We got to Dana's parents' cabin, unloaded and hit up Zorbaz for lunch on Otter Tail.

After we got back, we did some four-wheeling and then headed into Fergus to visit our good friends who live just outside of town.

They built a new house three years ago and finally made it over to see it. Monica gave us a tour of the property as well and brought the .22 in case we came upon the pesky skunk that's been lurking around.

While we visited and waited for Adam to come home from work the kids all got into painting faces with make-up on paper plates.

Adam was commissioned to be the judge...

Once the winner (Drew!) was awarded, we went out to eat at the Legion for supper. Thanks for a side-splitting fun time, Petersens!

It got a little late for Clara by the time we got back.

Rain was forecast for Saturday as well. We were disappointed to learn that the strawberries at Herzog's (where we've gone picking before) weren't quite ready yet. Brynn and I still made it to Ellie's Antiques down the road though. Brynn tried on some of the merchandise. :-)

We had a lunch picnic on the pontoon...

The girls played their story dice game..I forget the name of it now.

Just as it started to rain we headed over to my parents' for supper.

Sunday was a beautiful day and, of course, the same day we headed home, but we stayed pretty late to make the most of it. The girls picked some flowers for me before we left.

Thanks, Holly and Kevin, for letting us have our run of the place while you were on your bike trip!

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
