I'll just cut to the chase that Brynn had a great first day of middle school!
I dropped her off this morning for the first day, but normally she'll ride the bus to and from school now. We were trying to ascertain the other night where exactly her pick-up and drop-off bus stop was and it appeared to be into the next neighborhood which has no reasonable way to enter into from our street. I spoke with the bus coordinator and he agreed, so they put her on one of the rural buses which will pull up right at our cul-de-sac, so that was great news. Brynn had been lamenting about riding for what she deemed as too long, so I had to remind her how when I was a kid (yup, I went there! 😉), I rode the bus home for an hour and fifteen minutes. I'm not sure I really connected with her on my perspective...but I tried!
We did our first-day-of-school pics on the front step. Clara wanted her pic too, though they don't really have a start date for preschool per se. However, because they know at school that she'll be starting Kindergarten next year, they will work on getting her ready academically.
The school had given the students these t-shirts to wear on the first day so that the newbies would be easily spotted should they need any assistance. I figured the stricken look on their faces would also probably be a giveaway, but hey, a free t-shirt! Brynn waffled on whether to wear hers because it wasn't a requirement and she didn't know how many other kids would be wearing theirs. Ultimately, I think her best friend said she was wearing hers and encouraged Brynn to do the same.
(Brynn wrote 'preschool' on the board for Clara and you can see some chalk on her forehead. Hehe. Oops.
It was pretty bittersweet driving past Centennial on our way this morning. It was bustling with all the elementary kids, of course.
They run a pretty tight drop off lane at the middle school, so I knew I wouldn't have an opportunity to snap a pic on the first day, so this one was from back-to-school night. For some reason the sun seemed to be burning at double intensity that day.
The school just finished a three-year-long $16-million construction/renovation project, so it seems they're in pretty tip top shape now!
I did manage to get a quick (albeit crappy quality) pic of Principal Williams outside this morning greeting the students with his "middle school rocks" t-shirt. Love it!
Meanwhile, I did get this pic of Clara from preschool. She was working on writing sentences. So stinking cute. She is really progressing on her reading with her early reader books.
This is how I found Brynn when I got home after work. Ha. She did message me that she had made it home and then I called and chatted with her a bit before getting back to work. She just had one hiccup with her bus ride home, but now she knows the route and schedule and all that, so she felt her first day was a great success and can't wait to go back tomorrow.
Thank you for all the well wishes and phone calls. I know it's going to be a great year!
