September so far...

About a week and a half ago, Brynn got her Invisalign sets. She will have these in lieu of braces. They were fairly painful at first, but it didn't take long before she became accustomed to them. She just removes them to eat and then has to either brush or rinse her mouth and the trays before putting them back in. She switches to a new set each Sunday.

I feel like this time of year, and all summer long really, all I hear are crickets chirping. So, I didn't think too much of it when I heard loud chirping in Clara's preschool room. But, lo and behold, the school-agers had rounded up some crickets and they were being housed in the preschool room for a bit. So, Clara had to show them to me.

Last Saturday I flew out to Vegas for an International Baking Industry Expo that we were exhibiting at. Holy bakery samples! It was so delish, every day. I had three cookies for lunch one day. Oops! There were at least two different gelato companies there; some booths were giving out pie slices, donuts, pasta, bread, etc. We served s'mores from our booth! They seemed to be a pretty big hit. We had a camp theme going which was pretty fun.

There were also cake decorating contests going on during the show, so we would stop and admire them on our way out each evening. Yes, that one on the very left was indeed starting to tip. We noticed they removed that top section and just set it down by the cake when we arrived the next morning. Duff Goldman and Buddy (Cake Boss) from The Food Network were there as well, though I didn't actually get to see them.

I think this one was for the United Soybean Board.

I sent the girls a few pics of these other fun cakes.

And I got to meet the Pillsbury Dough Boy!

Dana and I had stayed at the Flamingo when we were there in July and I wound up there again this time as well.

On my last night, a couple of my co-workers and I headed down to Fremont Street. Dana and I hadn't even really known about it when we were there and it wasn't until we came back that we realized from everyone we talked to that we missed out on that part of town. It was pretty fun since I love old school stuff. It was neat to see what it looked like back in the day. And I had to meet Elvis, of course. :-)

I came back home late Wednesday night.

There was a bit of a rain storm on my flight from Vegas to Minneapolis. It was pretty neat to watch the lightning in the clouds.

Friday night Dana suggested we go to the Angry Birds 2 movie. Clara had her wolf costume on and decided to attend the movie in costume with her Angry Birds backpack and stuffed Red.

We went to the older theater (the Safari) in Moorhead and it was just us and another dad and his daughter seeing that movie. We sat and ate snacks and sat some more and 20 minutes had gone by and the movie still hadn't started yet. Dana went to see what was going on and here they thought it was already playing! Gah! So, another 15 minutes goes by and the movie finally starts. It was super funny, though, so it was worth the wait!

Last year Amanda and I traveled down to the cities to see Bob Seger in concert. We found out he was coming to Fargo and got tickets to see him again this past Saturday. He was still great!

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Medora Trip

Last weekend Clara and I traveled west to Medora. Clara had never been there before and was interested in checking it out. She was mapping out our route (which was pretty straightforward!) before we left. We made good time and, of course, had to stop at The Coffee Cup in Steele. (Growing up whenever we would go to Bismarck, it was must to stop here for snacks.) We waved to Sue on our way past New Salem. It was beautiful weather when we rolled into Medora. We were able to get checked into our motel right away and walked into town to start checking things of our itinerary. Our first stop was ice cream! After ice cream we just walked around town a bit and went into some of the shops. Clara had a burger from Sheriff Bear's before we got back to our motel just ahead of a rain shower. After the weather cleared, I was hungry for dinner so we shared some pizza and drove into the Theodore Roosevelt National Park for a bit. It was very foggy and misty when we got up on Saturday morning. We ...
