My Birthday

And there goes another quarantine birthday. Not all was lost, though; I had a great day celebrating turning 39.

Earlier in the week, Clara and Daddy were busy baking cookie dough cupcakes in anticipation of my birthday.

This was surprising as Daddy isn't usually one for tasting. ;-)

Brynn was more interested in decorating, so she let Daddy and Clara take the lead on baking and she swooped in to frost. I had run some errands on Saturday and came home to find that not only did they decorate the cupcakes, but what you see here is another full-on chocolate cake! They had an extra cake mix and frosting, so they baked a whole other cake and frosted that too. Whew!

I see there was a piece missing already; I probably ate it.

My morning exercise group surprised me with a Sandy's delivery in the morning. Everyone was pretty excited about that.

Dana had already planned to get me my fav, bacon breakfast pizza from Casey's. I feel full now just typing about all this food!

My parents stopped by for a social distancing birthday party in the garage. We set out the cupcakes so they could enjoy a birthday treat with us too.

And then I plopped myself down on the couch later in the afternoon and started a movie...all alone. It was glorious. I watched that until Dana came home with my Red Lobster birthday dinner.

Mmm, the cupcakes were super tasty!

I received some very nice gifts of homemade jewelry and a decorative garland.

Thank you for all the birthday wishes and cards and gifts! The end of my 30s is off to a pretty good start so far!

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...

Halloween 2025

Happy Halloween! We did trick-or-treating at my office again and celebrated National Cat Day a couple of days late. Unicorn making magic happen! The kids and Freddy. We got a little bit of a late start around 7:30. We went to a neighborhood near the high school where several of Clara's friends live. We stopped at Micah's house to say hi and another schoolmate happened to be over as well. We got to visiting too long and by the time we headed back out, some houses either had run out of candy (including Micah's, where they went through 600 pieces his mom said) or were already done for the night. But, we still got around to several. It had just gotten done raining and the wind was cold, so I didn't care to be out too long myself. Clara asked to have another post-Halloween party this year and Brynn planned and executed the whole thing. One of our fav parts was the missing children posters which were all the guests. Green Army Man, Clara Barton, Luna Lovegood (from Harry Pott...

September

When Brynn was in 8th grade, their class wrote letters to themselves that they would open once they were seniors. School staff must have sent them right to the high school for safe keeping because a few weeks ago, Brynn got hers back and read through it.    I had perfect weather for visiting a grower with my drone for work last month. Clara spent a night at Grandpa and Grandma Dietz's and did all sorts of activities. Family walk! Brynn ran into this bunch shopping at the mall. 😄 I was so tickled to get this pic from auntie - as much as Brynn was to bump into them. This nomad cat has been showing up around our cul-de-sac, but he does not like me, unfortunately. :-( His tag even says that he's not lost, he just likes to roam. Ha. (I only know that because he actually let our neighbor catch him.) Clara and I have been going to some Davies football games while it's been so nice out. Brynn has been accepted at both NDSU and UND. Yay! We visit UND next Friday, so it will be inte...
