Halloween 2020
This year we were invited to spend Halloween with the Weckerlys. I think most people were wondering what was best as far as celebrating Halloween in the middle of a pandemic. Since Hurdsfield is such a small community and they have a very low number of positive or active cases there, we felt it was probably a safer option than Fargo anyhow. Plus, with wind gusts up to 60 mph, it seemed like 'rona germs didn't stand a chance. (Kidding.)
We came through Carrington on Friday for dinner at my parents' house and then continued on to Weckerlys' where they were watching the first 'Harry Potter' movie. So, Brynn was excited to get in on part of that.
The next day the kids hung out and Chad helped with trick-or-treat training. We were joking with the kids with a pretend trick-or-treating dry run.
Marsha didn't seem overly impressed with her costume, but she looked really cute.
Auntie had a fun game of Halloween bingo planned.
(Thank you to Tessa for some of these pictures!)
Elise, Brynn and Ben were busy working on stop additional Halloween decorations.
Oliver helped make mummy dogs which turned out really neat...and yummy.
We had quite the spooky spread from ghost bananas and pumpkin oranges to punch with floating phalanges ice cubes.
Grandpa and Grandma Dietz came along for trick-or-treating too.
The horrendous wind was a real bummer, but the kids didn't seem to mind too much.
Mom and Dad and I took Oliver and Clara in my vehicle behind the older kids. These two little ones had a tough time keeping up with the older ones, but they didn't seem too deterred. It was so hilarious watching them together. Half of the time poor Oliver's helmet was sideways, so I don't know how well he could see.
We made it back to the house after about a half an hour. The kids rifled through the treats, ate some favorites, did a little trading and then we went into Fessenden so we could visit Grandma Darlene.
Oliver and Clara were having such a fun time together, Oliver decided to tag along with us up to Grandma's.
Dad tried to give Grandma a fright.
Here's a little Halloween video montage.
We had a fun time! Thanks for hosting us, Weckerlys! And thank you to all who gave the girls cards, money and goodies this Halloween.
We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family. We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...
Happy Halloween! We did trick-or-treating at my office again and celebrated National Cat Day a couple of days late. Unicorn making magic happen! The kids and Freddy. We got a little bit of a late start around 7:30. We went to a neighborhood near the high school where several of Clara's friends live. We stopped at Micah's house to say hi and another schoolmate happened to be over as well. We got to visiting too long and by the time we headed back out, some houses either had run out of candy (including Micah's, where they went through 600 pieces his mom said) or were already done for the night. But, we still got around to several. It had just gotten done raining and the wind was cold, so I didn't care to be out too long myself. Clara asked to have another post-Halloween party this year and Brynn planned and executed the whole thing. One of our fav parts was the missing children posters which were all the guests. Green Army Man, Clara Barton, Luna Lovegood (from Harry Pott...
Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
