New Years

First post of the new year - woohoo! Happy 2021!

Here's how we spent New Years Eve and Day:

I had picked up a sugar cookie decorating kit from Jen's Bakery near our house. It was cute and the girls had fun frosting the cookies. Sometimes these kind of sugar cookies are not my fav, but these are actually really tasty.

We didn't have too much planned for NYE, but we did make it halfway through a game of Loaded Questions.

Clara was tired and went to bed a bit after 9:00 and we let Brynn stay up until 11:00, so she watched part of a Harry Potter movie.

Today we had an easy morning and then headed to my parents' lake for the afternoon to celebrate Christmas with my side.

I got a lot of awesome gifts in which my pile of cookies here will pair nicely with my wine I received. Can't wait to dig into all of that!

I had been wanting to go on a little walking holiday lights tour in the neighborhood next to ours (Martens Way) and finally talked Brynn into going with me tonight. We didn't start out until about 8:30, but it was such a nice night out.

The other night we were discussing if anyone was doing any New Year's resolutions - Brynn said she was going to stay the same (person) and Clara was resolving to 'love' and spread Jesus' love. Those answers were totally true to their personalities. :-)

We're looking forward to what 2021 brings! Happy New Year!

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
