Birthday Getaway

A while ago Dana nd I had planned a weekend birthday getaway up to Kohl's Resort. This past weekend was the best time Brian and Ashley had for us to come for this month.

The girls stayed with Dana's parents and Grandma came up to take Clara to her Saturday soccer game before they spent the rest of the weekend at the lake. Thanks for having them, Grandpa and Grandma!

We both took Friday off of work, so we were able to leave town around 9:00. We grabbed lunch as we got into Bemidji and got checked into our cabin.

This time we were able to stay in one of the octagon 'treehouse' style cabins.

We had brought the four-wheelers up with us and it was a gorgeous day for riding. We trailered to Tenstrike and left on some trails from there.

Dana had mapped out some trails for us before we left, but I don't think we actually ended up on any of them. Ha!

We got a little muddy (not bad, though), but that was the most fun part.

After we got back to Tenstike, we had a drink at the local establishment (and also where we parked the truck and trailer) before heading back to the resort to clean up for dinner.

Dana had noticed this chophouse restaurant when we had gone to visit Christel and John before and had always wanted to try it out. The food was fantastic and we had nice view on their patio.

Just looking at our food in this picture makes me want to go right back there to have it again!

Dana got a fire going when we got back from dinner.

Another place I absolutely want to visit again when we're back in Bemidji is this brunch place...or breakfast bar, I guess is what they call it. Anyhow, it was fabulous and had such a fun atmosphere.

When we had the same server at Red Stu as we had at Turtle River Chophouse the night before, we realized they have the same owners and another placed attached to Red Stu called 209 Bar which we heard was really good too.

We shared an omelet that had pulled pork, ham, bacon and sausage in it which came with this cinnamon fresh toast casserole as a 'side.' And I couldn't resist their special mimosa of the day, lemon blueberry.

I had booked massages for us in town after our brunch, so we made our way over to the spa after Red Stu on Saturday. Dana didn't want me to take a pic of him in his robe. :-)

I went and got my nails done while it was Dana's turn for his massage. Then we visited at Christel and John's for most of the rest of the afternoon before heading back for some frozen pizza at the cabin.

We had planned on renting one of the resort pontoons to tour around the lake a bit on Saturday evening, but the weather had turned pretty cool, so we ate our pizza by the fire outside and then watched crime shows on TV for the rest of the evening.

It was cool and misty when we got up this morning.

Dana had the genius idea to get a couple of rolls to go from Red Stu, so he had that for breakfast this morning.

I had a little bit of an English muffin and peanut butter so I could save room for an ice cream cone. :-)

We had an absolutely fun and relaxing time. We're so glad that we got away to have some time together just the two of us.

We got some pics from Holly of Clara's fruitful fishing outing with Grandpa.

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Easter + April Birthdays

The girls had Thursday, Friday and Monday off from school for the Easter break. So, Dana and I took most of the same time off (work) to match.  Always reading. 💜 Hanging out with Brynn. 💗 Dana and I went on a Costco date. We tried our hand at homemade ravioli again. I think it went a bit more smoothly compared to last time. Hubert's sister Abby stopped by for a visit. We hadn't seen her in a long time and so it was fun to have her We celebrated Dana's birthday and kicked it off with some Sandy's donuts. I don't recall what was so funny. haha. Clara's card. Birthday King Clara dyed eggs. I baked a birthday cake for Dana, messed it up getting it out of the pans, and Clara somehow cobbled it together into a masterpiece. Dana chose Lucky 13's for dinner out. On Saturday we packed up to hit up Oliver's birthday party before we went on to Dead Lake for Easter. Oliver is 9! January + Valentine's Day + CATS!

We ARE still alive over here and have not frozen to death. Here's what we've been up to for the past month and a half! Brynn and Hubert at the OG (Olive Garden): 'Lady and the Tramp' style. haha. Taking in a Force game...with extra fighting. It was very exciting. One Sunday when Clara was at a sleepover, the three of us went to Black Coffee Waffle Bar after church and then for some crepes and boba at Tea & Crepe. Then Brynn and I went prom dress shopping which was really fun. She did find a dress she loves so that was a relief. This is not the one she chose, but she tried on quite a few nice ones. Clara made crowns for the king and I (me). Clara had to write an essay to be considered for the robotics team at school. She waited for at least a couple of weeks to learn if she was accepted, and unfortunately was not. She was pretty disappointed, but she does have a chance to reapply next year when she's a fifth grader, and won't have to write another essay. I th...
