First Day of School

Dad took Brynn out for a date night to Olive Garden on Sunday night before school got started again.

Clara woke up early on Monday morning and decided to make herself a breakfast from a recipe out of one of her cookbooks. She did a great job, but it sounded like she didn't care for it very much. Daddy liked it, though, so at least someone enjoyed it.

We had just enough time this morning to snap our obligatory pics before we headed out. Brynn starts school about a half an hour later than Clara does so I rode bike with Clara to drop her off and came back to drive Brynn to her school.

It was a beautiful morning out!

She was excited that she could reach the top of her locker this year!

No tears from either of us. I am two for two with Clara now in holding it together. I might be toughening up! She was very excited for school and just started to get a little nervous only when I was about to leave.

Brynn wasn't quite as excited for school as Clara :-)

There she goes! Last year as a middle-schooler!

Pics from Clara's teacher...

I see we'll have to send some sunglasses to school with her.

I was able to work from home today which was so nice to be here when the girls got home from their first day....and actually I rode back to Clara's school to bike back home with her. I had some pre-made cookie dough in the fridge that Clara baked for her and Brynn to have as an after-school treat.

Both girls had a good first day. Brynn thinks that 7th grade is going to emerge as her best year of middle school, but hopefully 8th grade will turn out to be great. They are looking forward to riding the bus together in the mornings.

How sweet to have an OG dinner date with dad. I’m glad the first day went well. I was wondering about them all day! Especially hoping that Brynn was having an ok time since I know she wasn’t looking forward to it. That is cool they’ll be on the bus together. Yummy cookies for an after school snack. I hope the second day goes just as well or even better!

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
