Back to School

On Tuesday Clara had back-to-school night and got to meet her teacher and bring her supplies, etc.

Her teacher is only in her second year of teaching and seems super nice.

On Wednesday Grandpa Kim came in to town from the lake to spend the day with the girls before they started school on Thursday. I thought it was so cute that Clara was so excited, the night before she laid out her outfit for the next day.

Thursday was the first day of 2nd grade for Clara and 9th for Brynn at the high school!

Clara and I decided to bike over.

She had a really good first day, but had said she didn't want to go back on Friday...and then later told Dad that she was excited. So many emotions this first week! I think she really does like her teacher and she has at least one friend in her class, but she had such a good summer with Jenine, it seemed hard for her to see that end, of course. I know she'll have a great year!

Brynn starts almost an hour later than Clara, though they are still on the same morning bus route. I was going to drop her off for her first day, but her friend who lives nearby offered to pick her up, so it was very weird for me to not be the one to take her to school on the first day!

And then I was going to pick her up from school since I biked back over to get Clara, but she and her friend walked to her friend's house and then she came home later on. They've been biking over together in the mornings, so at least she doesn't have to get up as early to make it on the bus.

She already got her school ID back as they took their school photos before school even started for the year. She was happy with how they turned out this year; I think they turned out so great! I don't think it's sunk in for me yet that she's in high school now.

She likes her teachers pretty well and is excited for the electives she chose. I know she'll have a great year, too, and start to high school.

It's a good thing we started the school year on a Thursday because it seemed just two days of school wiped Clara out. She slept in until 9:00 on Saturday and about 8:45 this morning!

Brynn took a little break from Culvers to adjust to school, but plans to work some evenings during the weekday during the school year.

Clara has a cute class! I'm sure she will have a great year. It is hard to transition from summer fun back to school. I, too, cannot believe Brynn is in high school! Where does the time go? Her ID turned out great! Reagan hated hers and texted me from school asking if she could request to get a different one. I told her that was a bummer, but they have bigger fish to fry than getting her a better-looking student ID :P Maybe her junior year one will be better!

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Reagan Graduation + MDW + Tennis

This past weekend our oldest niece, Reagan, graduated high school. She will be attending UND for nursing in the fall. We're so proud of you and love you so much, Reagan!   Cousin Cayden had his Italian soda bar set up at the party which was super fun and a big hit. She opened a few gifts the night before her commencement. Reagan is the third generation to graduate from Harvey High as my mom and her dad, Chad also attended there. This was such a fun gift idea that Tessa put together from her and Chad. We got back home Sunday evening and between the four of us doing different things, spent most of Memorial Day outside. It was such beautiful weather. Brynn and I played tennis and Dana and Clara replaced some shrubs and did yardwork. The tennis season has wrapped up for Brynn now. She's sad to not be playing anymore, but still gets some court time between playing with friends and sometimes Clara and/or me. We're so proud of her and glad she played again this year. I had taken s...
