Everyone asks Brynn how Kindergarten has been going...even strangers. She usually just says 'great.' She doesn't get into too many details, except if you ask her specific questions. So, I basically grill her for information every day when I get home. :-) Things really have been going well for her; from getting on the bus in the mornings to the HopeKids after school program.
She realized the first day she rode the bus, which was Monday of this week, that lo and behold BFF Rosha rides in the mornings, too! They were both so excited. I was really glad for Brynn, as that was the one thing she was still a little uneasy about, was not knowing any other kids on the morning bus ride. So, they are together all day long now. Getting ready to make it on the bus in time has been going well. She is afraid of missing the bus, so that has been a great motivator in making it out to the corner in time. We don't wait out there but two to three minutes, but I really enjoy those few spare minutes together before heading off our separate ways for the day. She would still cling to me at preschool most days when I would drop her off (as it seemed like she would do it without thinking; like something she had been doing for so long that she didn't think to do anything differently), and it was really wearing me down. It's not a very fun way to leave your child, starting off the day. I know she always ended up having a fun time there, but like I said, it wore me down after so long. However, now I give her my hug and kiss good-bye and tell her to have a good day and she hops right onto the bus, no problem.
She gets pretty tired out by the end of the day, even thought she is used to being gone all day long from when she was at daycare and then at preschool. But now, of course, there is no more full-on nap time; now they just 'rest their brains' she tells me. So, we have been going to bed earlier. And because she's so pooped out, she does go to bed a lot easier now which is nice, too. I'm sure it is a long day for her when she goes on to HopeKids after a busy day at school.
Of course we've already had a little of the usual Kindergarten drama. One boy already said he wanted to marry her. Ha. She didn't seem too interested in that, and I told her 'yeah, I think you're too young to get married anyway,' and she said, "Yes, I AM too young." LOL.
I love hearing all about her day, and instead of feeling sad that she is so grown up now, I feel excited for this chapter in her life and the new things happening for her at school and what she will learn there. Most of all I am so glad and relieved that she is doing well there and enjoying it.
Here she is waiting to get on the bus on Friday morning. She is picked up right across the street from our corner which is right outside our house. Her bus driver seems really nice. Luckily, she rides the same bus/route in the mornings from home to school as she does from school to HopeKids in the afternoon. You will notice the '118' button on her backpack, as well as '118' posted on the side of the bus. They have the kids memorize their route numbers rather than a bus number for the times when they pull the usual bus out for service.

I got a kick out of the driver. I was just snapping away as she got onto the bus and was going to do my usual scurrying back across the street, and figured he'd want to be on his way, but this morning he noticed me with my camera and told Brynn, "wave to your mom, she's taking a picture of you."
