Summer So Far

Brynn's summer sure seems to be starting out well so far. She started the summer camp series at Hope this week and they have been so busy already. They've gone to the library twice and Brynn is now signed up for the summer reading program through the library. Each week is a different theme. The first week started out with safety which took them for a visit to the fire station one day and the police station the next. The kids brought their bikes and helmets another day to learn about safety with your wheels in which they also decorated their bikes and had a bike parade. They did water fun outside at Hope and also went to the public pool already once. Whew! Wears me out just thinking about all they've been doing. I don't even know how they have time to do all this stuff, but it all sounds so great. Next week's theme is sports.

Brynn's usual best buddies, Lily and Rosha, with whom she usually attends the HopeKids after school program are not in the summer camps, but I think she has been making some friends with a couple new kids and some other girls she knew from HopeKids.

On Tuesday Brynn had her first piano lesson with Penny. It went really well, as her teacher makes learning very age-appropriate with fun themes, prizes and games. I was surprised that Brynn even learned to play a song the first lesson! We found a nice, almost-new keyboard for her on Craigslist. She is really excited about lessons and has been practicing every day. I'm glad to see she's so enthusiastic about it and I hope she keeps it up. Attending her first lesson with her was quite the flashback for me to my piano days! I did record her playing the song she learned. It is "Mary Had a Little Lamb," which you can sort of make out in the video, but I think she did miss a couple notes. Click the link to watch the video:  Brynn playing piano

Tonight as Brynn was going to put her PJs on she says, "Mom, should I start wearing a bra?" Lord, help me! I told her she doesn't need to until she's older and she agreed she would probably start wearing one when she's 11....which seems like tomorrow. I need to go check the mirror now for gray hair.

Last Friday I came home to this nice display of artwork. :-)

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Easter + April Birthdays

The girls had Thursday, Friday and Monday off from school for the Easter break. So, Dana and I took most of the same time off (work) to match.  Always reading. 💜 Hanging out with Brynn. 💗 Dana and I went on a Costco date. We tried our hand at homemade ravioli again. I think it went a bit more smoothly compared to last time. Hubert's sister Abby stopped by for a visit. We hadn't seen her in a long time and so it was fun to have her We celebrated Dana's birthday and kicked it off with some Sandy's donuts. I don't recall what was so funny. haha. Clara's card. Birthday King Clara dyed eggs. I baked a birthday cake for Dana, messed it up getting it out of the pans, and Clara somehow cobbled it together into a masterpiece. Dana chose Lucky 13's for dinner out. On Saturday we packed up to hit up Oliver's birthday party before we went on to Dead Lake for Easter. Oliver is 9! Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...
