First Day of 1st Grade

First day of school was a success! It started out great with Brynn's excitement from yesterday continuing into this morning as we got ready and made our way into the classroom. However, five minutes prior to class starting, when I was about to head out, she clung on to me when I gave her a hug and started sobbing. :-( I was not surprised, as she would still do that to me some of the time when I'd drop her off at Hope, but I guess I was hoping it wouldn't happen today. There were a lot of extra staff helping in the halls and around the school this morning, and I was so grateful for the one who saw me struggling and came over to offer her help so I could escape and Brynn could calm down and join her class in the first day. I knew she would be just fine as soon as the day got underway, but it is still so hard for me when she does that. I accidentally went the wrong direction out of her classroom, and ended up having to walk back past her room to leave. When I did so I could see her with the staff member and she had already calmed down and was working on a work sheet Mrs. Stewart had waiting for them at their desks.

New backpack!

Brynn with her teacher, Mrs. Stewart.

This boy seated next to Brynn was in her Kindergarten class last year. He just cracked me up this morning. He seemed excited to be sitting next to Brynn and was asking her about which highlighter she had gotten, etc. He has a twin sister and I asked him if she was in their class too and he said that she was in a different class this year and mentioned how they didn't like being in the same class last year. Ha.

Brynn is so excited that her friend Lily is in her class. Brynn even found out that they will be riding the bus together in the mornings. And actually after school, too, as Lily goes with Brynn to the HopeKids after school program.

Since I am moonlighting as a stay-at-home mom right now still being on maternity leave, Clara and I walked over to the school to pick up Brynn. It was so different for me to be there waiting at that time of day with the other parents. It was nice to be able to go meet her after school and walk back home together.

Like I said, I knew she would have a great first day once she got going, but I was surprised at how excited she was about her first day. She can't wait to go back tomorrow she says and even said today was the best day ever. I am so glad that she is that excited. I don't remember her being this jazzed in the first days of Kindergarten last year.

I offered to make Brynn's choice of a meal for her first day of school. She chose tacos.

Surprise! Oreo ice cream cake for a special treat.

Brynn was glad to come home to see Clara.

Awww, great update! Love that picture of her smiling so big when you went to pick her up! Great choice on the tacos, yum. Did you make that Oreo cake?? Looks great. That is so sweet that she missed Clara. I'll have to show Reagan Brynn's backpack, she will love it.

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Easter + April Birthdays

The girls had Thursday, Friday and Monday off from school for the Easter break. So, Dana and I took most of the same time off (work) to match.  Always reading. 💜 Hanging out with Brynn. 💗 Dana and I went on a Costco date. We tried our hand at homemade ravioli again. I think it went a bit more smoothly compared to last time. Hubert's sister Abby stopped by for a visit. We hadn't seen her in a long time and so it was fun to have her We celebrated Dana's birthday and kicked it off with some Sandy's donuts. I don't recall what was so funny. haha. Clara's card. Birthday King Clara dyed eggs. I baked a birthday cake for Dana, messed it up getting it out of the pans, and Clara somehow cobbled it together into a masterpiece. Dana chose Lucky 13's for dinner out. On Saturday we packed up to hit up Oliver's birthday party before we went on to Dead Lake for Easter. Oliver is 9! Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...
