Vacation

On Wednesday morning we headed out for Dead Lake to stay for a bit of a vacation at Dana's parents' lake cabin. We had some rain, but mostly great weather. Brynn was already at the cabin waiting for us, as she went a night early with Grandma, since Holly had already been up in Fargo taking care of Clara while she was sick. (Clara is doing much better, by the way!)

Clara and I were up before Dana and Brynn on Thursday morning, and decided to walk around outside a bit. She really likes to wave now.

On Thursday night we met our friends Dave and Jess at Zorbaz. They have a lake place on Ottertail Lake, so they just jetted over in their boat and gave us a little ride after supper. It was a nice night for eating out on the deck, and Clara's first time to Zorbaz. She loved it!

We had been planning on going to pick strawberries at Herzog's again like we did last year, but on Friday morning I learned from their post on Facebook that they were picked out already by 8:00 am! They had some other fields ripening, though, so we were planning on trying again the next morning.  Since we didn't make it strawberry picking, Brynn and I went down the road a bit while Clara was sleeping and stopped at an antique shop. It was so fun. Brynn was so interested in all the old things, especially the stuff she didn't know about.

They had a lot of old records, one of which was the "Sound of Music." Brynn recognized this one as I think a few of the kids played a song or two from this movie at her piano recital. I thought of Auntie Cindy, as I had in my head that she likes this musical.

Brynn was trying out an old typewriter made in Germany. I told her this is what there was before computers and she asked me where the screen was. :-)

That afternoon was really nice and warm for a boat ride. We went out to a nice shallow sandy part of the lake and swam for a bit. And had lunch out on the boat. That proved to be a bit difficult, though, as Clara is into *everything* lately!

I thought the sunset looked so pretty one of the nights...

Brynn was obesssed with s'mores! She toasted my mallow for me and accidentally set it on fire. Oh well; it still tasted good.

On the other end of the spectrum...

I guess there was one perk to getting up at 5:30 to pump milk for Clara. (Only about one more month of that to go and then I'm done! woo hoo!). I do go back to sleep after that though. Anyway, the sun rise that morning was especially orange/red and so pretty. I love how calm the water is at that time of day.

It's kind of difficult to see, but on the rocks there I noticed it looks like a bird is just landing.

Clara seems so much older now, especially since she started pulling herself up on things and crawling all over the place and getting into 'trouble.'  She may or may not have eaten a leaf and some string during vacation. :-/ Where did my little baby go?

My parents made it over for a visit last night and we were laughing how she automatically sticks her thumb in her mouth when she has her little blankie here.

Nap time

It's not vacation if we're not pitting up some cherries!

On Friday night our friends who live in Fergus came out for a visit with their little boy. He is about 15 months old.

On Saturday we barely made it in time to pick some strawberries, as they were almost picked out by the time we got there. Of course they were as tasty as ever!

THANK YOU to Holly and Kevin for letting us stay at the cabin while they were on their motorcycle trip! We had a great time.

I thought I'd post these in a separate post, but included my favorite here. I took some pics of the girls on Wednesday night and this one was just too sweet.

Cute cute cute! Love their swimsuits. And the pic of Clara "driving" the boat. And of course that last one of the two of them. And Brynn reading on the boat. So many good ones. Hope you guys had a wonderful time!

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Reagan Graduation + MDW + Tennis

This past weekend our oldest niece, Reagan, graduated high school. She will be attending UND for nursing in the fall. We're so proud of you and love you so much, Reagan!   Cousin Cayden had his Italian soda bar set up at the party which was super fun and a big hit. She opened a few gifts the night before her commencement. Reagan is the third generation to graduate from Harvey High as my mom and her dad, Chad also attended there. This was such a fun gift idea that Tessa put together from her and Chad. We got back home Sunday evening and between the four of us doing different things, spent most of Memorial Day outside. It was such beautiful weather. Brynn and I played tennis and Dana and Clara replaced some shrubs and did yardwork. The tennis season has wrapped up for Brynn now. She's sad to not be playing anymore, but still gets some court time between playing with friends and sometimes Clara and/or me. We're so proud of her and glad she played again this year. I had taken s...
