Labor Day Weekend

It's been a heckuva past one to two weeks here with illness. Of course! But, it's not who you would think. Clara was the only one who was actually healthy this time. Thank goodness. Last week Dana, Brynn and I all battled some type of quasi-flu thing for which Brynn ended up staying home from school last Thursday. Luckily it didn't last too long. My worst night was Wednesday night and I was rendered non-functional. One thing that made me feel slightly better was hearing Daddy over the baby monitor read Clara her favorite story, not once but twice. :-) And then he actually spoon fed me some cereal later that night. Yay Dana! Anyway, we did go on to have a fun Labor Day weekend at the lakes.

We didn't head out until Saturday morning, so Brynn choose Village Inn to go out to eat at on Friday night. Clara was waiting impatiently for her food.

With the markedly cooler weather this week feeling more like fall, it seems like so long ago that I took these pictures of the girls swimming and playing in the water.

Ooh baby toes!

And big girl feet!

She always thinks she's pretty big stuff when she gets herself into a chair.

Grandma Holly gave Brynn a trim at the cabin.

We celebrated my mom's birthday at their lake place on Sunday. Unfortunately I wasn't feeling well again, apparently with my first-ever migraine, so I didn't get as many photos as I would have liked that day. And Elise came to spend the night at our house, and again, didn't get any pictures because I felt so awful. They had a good time, though, from what I could tell.

My cousin Tammy came from St. Cloud with her granddaughter.

A rainbow last night.

Clara slept in this morning, so I had the opportunity to grab my camera and get a few pics of Brynn getting on the bus. Usually Clara is awake and comes out to see sister off on the bus, and there is no way I can wrangle her and a camera at the same time, so I seized my opportunity today. I don't recall why Brynn was apparently miffed at me in this first pic. Ha.

Same driver and same bus number this year. This other boy sometimes gets on at our corner too, but most often it's just Brynnie. She is still really enjoying school!

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
