Letters

Last Saturday my best friend, Amanda and her little girl, Adria, came over for a visit. The girls had fun playing together and it is so funny to watch them interact each time they're together. Adria is such a little sweetheart.

Of course Clara is scrounging for food.

Time to give good-bye hugs...

Bye, friend!

Later that day we met my parents and Weckerlys at The Ramada for some swimming. Brynn was excited to spend time with everyone, of course, and even better, Tessa and the kids spent the night at our house.

Brynn slept with me that night since Dana was out of town anyway and then we could free up a bit more sleeping room for our guests. She had already asked if she could sleep in my bed earlier in the week since she knew Daddy wouldn't be occupying it all weekend. She actually is sleeping in our bed right now as she sweet-talked Dad into taking his spot.

This was a heart-melter. Brynn had gotten Clara up on her bed to kind of sing and bounce around. Well, about as soon as Clara got up there, I think Brynn got distracted by something and was searching under her bed when Clara fell off. She was crying a bit, but wasn't hurt or anything. I wasn't upset with Brynn, but just had told her that if she wants to get Clara up on her bed, she'll just have to make sure for the future to watch her, or if she feels she can't do that, then just don't get Clara onto her bed. It was clearly an accident, of course, but Brynn must have still felt badly, as she slid this note under Clara's door when I was rocking her that night. I didn't want Brynn to feel badly at all, but in a way it was nice to see her take some responsibility for situations that she finds herself in, because usually she runs on the mentality of that nothing is her fault.  (I feel I should also note that I was around the area while part of  the whole thing was taking place, but had left the area before Clara tumbled off Brynn's bed, so I felt to blame also that I wasn't watching as well).

Thank you so much to everyone who gave the girls Easter gifts. It was like Christmas around here!
I thought these cookies were so cute...

Brynn has really been into this book series "Smile" and "Sisters" (by the same author) lately. She had checked "Smile" out from the school library and was so into it, ended up using her Barnes and Noble gift cards she had saved up to buy both books. She has patiently been awaiting their arrival which should be on Wednesday. Yay! Clara already seems way more into books than Brynn has been, so it's nice to see Brynn get excited about books too.

Brynn tried to tell us one day about some 'romance' happening at school. We didn't put too much thought into it, until she brought this note home from Rico Suave. Oh, help us.

Brynn has been talking about going back to Arrowwood Resort by Alexandria ever since we were there in early March. One day she got the idea to set up a motel front desk in the 'lobby' of our home. Clara was also working the front desk that day. Brynn must have waited down there at least a half an hour straight just waiting for Dad to come home so she could check him in. Unfortunately he was running late as he got caught up with something at work, but I was able to keep an eye out for his truck coming down the street so she could be at the desk when he walked in. Love the imagination. Ha. (You can see the "Floor 2" sign behind her also.)

Clara had her well-child check on Friday (a couple months late, as it was to have been her 18-month check-up). She checked out very well and is still a peanut at 8th percentile for height and at 21 lbs is in the 23rd percentile for weight.

She is adjusting very well to the toddler room at daycare and taking much better naps over in that room which makes me so relieved! She says more words every day now which is so much fun. Some new ones lately...socks, ow, what's this, who's this, baby.

If you know Brynn, you know that she can be quite a nervous Nelly, especially when it comes bedtime. We are never sure if her anxiousness is typical of other kids her age, or if is a little more than ordinary. So at Clara's appointment on Friday, we did ask her doctor about it and her wrote her out a prescription....for monster spray. :-) He said he sees this a lot a it should help take care of it! Brynn was with us, so she got the low down on how to use it straight from Dr. Gunderson. She and Dana stepped out of the room while Clara received her second flu shot which gave the doctor a chance to tell me how this all works, as he had told Brynn you can easily pick some up at any retailer such as Target, etc. And you can spray it in the closet and under the bed before bedtime and will repel any monsters. Brynn was pretty down for it. So it seems that the active ingredient in this monster repellent is Febreeze or some similar type of deodorizer. Must be of the same thought as as mice being repelled by fabric softener sheets.  I was also advised that you can find some special labels online to use as well. We'll see how it goes!

(Since it was Clara's appointment that is whom the prescription is written to)

 Silly girls...

She's so squeezable

Brynn loves to wear lip balm and lipstick. And pose with her heart hands.

When Tessa and I were younger we used to cut up catalogs an d make 'books' of our dream lives from the children and men (our husbands) in the catalogs. Brynn was looking for something to do this afternoon so I told her about what Tessa and I used to do, and she was all about it. Here was her dream life creation!

Watching 'The Princess Bride.' Brynn's face was cracking me up. It was the scene where that muskrat thing attacks Wesley. It's like some larger-than-life ugly rodent and it was creeping her out.

ACK, the cute! I just love these! It is indeed such a kick to watch those two little minions together. I love Brynn's dream board, I almost forgot about those! I noticed she had a cat posted, good choice.

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
