Birthday Party and Holiday Programs

This first video is from gymnastics last week. The row of kids lining up in front of me is Clara's class. She finally files in way on the left next to her look-alike friend. They do a little send-off song after their class is done.

In the back you see Brynn's class (she is in the blue leotard) running around doing a game of cartwheel tag.

Last Friday we headed to the mall to visit Santa. He was very nice and jolly. Brynn asked for a dog, basketball hoop and I think like two or three other things! Clara asked for a Peppa Pig set.

On Saturday we went to St. Cloud to celebrate my cousin Tammy's 50th birthday. It was so fun getting together with my cousins. Grandma D even made the trip from Harvey. So, we had to get a picture of us girls together.

Birthday Girl!

We stayed the night at our friends' house in Sartell on Saturday night and I don't think Rumpelstiltskin got much sleep. She was like this most of the way home and once we got home at about 3:30 in the afternoon on Sunday, she crawled into bed and fell asleep...and didn't get up until I woke her for school the next morning at 7:00. (She did get up in the middle of the night to change into her PJs and then again when she heard a loud noise. When she came into our room to ask what the noise was, she said she was hungry - which is what I was afraid would happen since I didn't wake her for supper. So I told her to get a bowl of cereal and then go back to bed. She must have been more tired than hungry because she just ended up going right back to bed). She was so well-rested and got right out of bed that morning. It was amazing. I was worried she was coming down with a bug or something, so I kept checking on her and in the morning when I was waking her, I asked her if she was ok to which she replied, "yeah. I was just tired." I guess so!

Clara's drawing. I think She is the larger figure and I am next to her. I asked her why she was frowning and she said she didn't mean to draw it that way. I also asked her what the blue circle around her was and she said, "it's the night around me." :-) Love it.

On Tuesday night was Brynn's school holiday program. The kids all sounded great.

(Brynn is in the middle bottom in the black dress.)

Another session of swimming lessons ended on Wednesday. Brynn is going to take a break this next session. She did not pass her level yet again to which I think she has been getting disgruntled that she isn't moving on as quickly as she would like. Clara is going for another round of level one. So, Brynn and I will watch her.

Thursday was both girls' Christmas program at HopeKids. Most of the kids were stable animals and Brynn was excited to play the part of Mary. Clara is the piggy in the middle. :-) The girls were excited that BOTH sets of grandparents came to watch them! Thanks for coming, guys!

We have a big Christmaspalooza weekend planned this weekend with cookie baking, pulling sleds behind the four-wheeler, gift-wrapping, ornament-making and possibly doing our holiday lights tour. Hopefully I will have a bunch of pics to post after the weekend. Brynn said tonight, 'good thing we have two days to do it all!' We might need more than that. ;-) They watched 'The Polar Express' for movie night tonight.

Love all the program footage & pictures! Clara waving in the Hope program video is so cute and Brynn made a great Mary. How cool! Mom and I were laughing when she told me afterward Clara said "Brynn was Mary, and I was nothing!" Ha. Mom said, "you were a piggy!" Apparently she didn't think a lowly stable animal was as great as being Mary. She made a very cute piggy, though. Brynn's school program sounded great, nice job! I'm glad Brynn ended up not being sick and just needed some rest. Clara's picture is a keeper for sure, so sweet and I love her description of it.

Love the post! So happy we got to the Hope Kids program - such a nice performance and fun to have a chance to visit over supper. Thank goodness the girls sounded so wonderful in their performances - we suck at singing Happy Birthday! LOL What a great time in St Cloud though! Love Brynn's dress she wore for the Centennial program, so pretty! Our lil' piggy was such a cutie!

January Recap

Right before Christmas break was done, Brynn and  I went downtown to Nichole's for some graduation planning. Making lefse! Clara finished up her time in robotics league with a presentation of the robots and mission that she and her partner/friend, Elizabeth, had been working on. Here's a video compilation of two of the missions they presented. It was so cool. I especially liked the one that picked up the rocks. Some of Brynn's recent drawings. Bedtime snuggles. 💜 I was messaging with Clara's teacher to see if he could let her know that Brynn would pick her up from school one of the very cold days last week. He wrote me back to confirm Clara received the message. I asked Clara when she got home if she wrote that last sentence. Haha. Clara had her first swim meet on Saturday, which was a 'home meet,' hosted by Clara's team, the Red Dragons at Moorhead High School. She was disgruntled about getting up at 7:00 am on a Saturday morning, but each team had specifi...

Clara's Recital + Scouting Event + XaFriendsgiving

I was in full fall mode watching 'When Harry Met Sally" in my turkey leg slippers the other night. Dana and I went out to eat at Granite City on Friday night and I think I found my signature cocktail for Christmas. It's called Snow on the Beach and it was so pretty and tasted really good! Saturday morning Clara had her piano recital and did a great job! Thank you to sister Brynn and the grandparents for coming. After lunch with everyone (family, not the other piano students), she was off to the next thing which was  a Scouting event at NDSU. She had to miss the morning session because of the recital, but in the afternoon they made a tool box. It turned out great. That night we had the XaBeat (the exercise dance class I go to) crew with spouses over for a little XaFriendsgiving. It was super fun. Dana mixing up old fashioneds. There was no shortage of food - it was an amazing spread. Dana smoked a couple turkey breasts that turned out really well and the stuffing sausage bi...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
