First Day of School

Tuesday night was back to school night where students were supposed to come and see who their teachers were going to be for the year and check out their classrooms, bring their supplies, etc. I did get a tip from one of Brynn's friends over the weekend that teacher assignments were showing up in PowerSchool (our online school system portal). So, we did find out earlier than Tuesday. Brynn was happy to learn she had Ms. Joy as she said she was hoping for a female teacher this year.

Ms. Joy actually taught fourth grade at Brynn's school last year and my co-worker's son had her for a teacher and requested her for fifth this year, so I had heard good things about her.

When we arrived to their classroom, she informed the students that they could choose their own seat. They all seemed so caught off guard. Haha. Brynn found a seat next to a couple of girls whose names she recognized.

Brynn got her supplies settled and worked on a worksheet that Ms. Joy had for the students to complete and then checked out the classroom a bit before we headed for home. She left pretty excited about starting the school year.

Brynn got up and going really well this morning so I am hoping that's a good indication of how mornings will go for her all year. Clara, on the other hand, was a different story. She's not much of a morning person anyhow, even if she does wake up on her own. She's pretty owly and stubborn until she really gets going...which is typically after I've dropped her off at preschool. Ha.

Dad was still around after Brynn had gotten ready, so he jumped in for a couple of pics, too.

Our big fifth grader!

Clara was first upset because she wasn't included in the photos and then didn't want her pic taken and then decided yes she did, but this is all we ended up with. ha.

It gets worse every year, I tell ya! Last year I at least made it to the front door of the school, but Brynn wouldn't let me go in with her, but this year I didn't even get to exit my car! Oh goodness. So, I had to snap a couple quick pics and video before she was off.

Yes, that is my voice cracking in the middle of the video. I'd rather be the one blubbering than have Brynn upset and crying which is how it used to go in Kindergarten and first grade.

It's not Clara's first day of anything, but I had my camera along anyhow, so I tried to get a couple more pictures of her going to preschool this morning. Standing in defiance. :-)

Gotcha!

Brynn reported a great first day of fifth grade! I think she'll have an awesome last year of elementary school this year. Miss Joy already said that they'll have some homework, whereas last year Brynn hardly had any, so we'll see how heavy the workload ends up to be. They already received a couple of assignments, once of which includes nightly reading.

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Reagan Graduation + MDW + Tennis

This past weekend our oldest niece, Reagan, graduated high school. She will be attending UND for nursing in the fall. We're so proud of you and love you so much, Reagan!   Cousin Cayden had his Italian soda bar set up at the party which was super fun and a big hit. She opened a few gifts the night before her commencement. Reagan is the third generation to graduate from Harvey High as my mom and her dad, Chad also attended there. This was such a fun gift idea that Tessa put together from her and Chad. We got back home Sunday evening and between the four of us doing different things, spent most of Memorial Day outside. It was such beautiful weather. Brynn and I played tennis and Dana and Clara replaced some shrubs and did yardwork. The tennis season has wrapped up for Brynn now. She's sad to not be playing anymore, but still gets some court time between playing with friends and sometimes Clara and/or me. We're so proud of her and glad she played again this year. I had taken s...
