Dead Lake Vacation

This year we were able to spend a bit more time at the lake for our annual vacation. Dana and I took off Wednesday through Friday and the forecast ahead of us was predicted to be great. It did not disappoint as we did have really nice weather. Thank you, again, to Holly and Kevin for letting us crash the cabin while they were on their motorcycle trip.

Brynn had gone down ahead of us when she was able to ride back with Grandpa and Grandma when they were up on Father's Day.

Before we headed out of town on Wednesday, Dana and I took Clara to her Sports Sampler activity that she goes to twice per week through Fargo Parks. We had such a blast watching her having so much fun.  They've done football, soccer, baseball/t-ball and that day they were doing volleyball, kick ball and color tag. Her last day of it is tomorrow. She's really enjoyed all days except for one when it was a bit cooler, but she's wanted to try out different sports, especially football. So, this was such a great way for her to check out each sport to see what she likes.

I realized this week what a list-making family we are! When Brynn and I were in the truck going somewhere from the lake, we found a list Dad had in there of things errands he was running. Of course we had to make our lake menu and a list of the things we wanted to do on our vacation. I make a menu list and a grocery list every week just at home. We always have our summer and Christmas vacation bucket lists, we made a bucket list just for the girls of things they wanted to do with Ryann this summer and I made a movie list for Brynn and me. I feel like I just now made a list of all the things we make lists of. :-)

We got out the kayaks and had a lot of fun with those.

Getting my nails done by the girls.

And then I got really tired and just had to lie my head down. Ha. I don't know what was wrong with me.

We decided the lake water was warmer than Davies pool. So, they spent a lot of time in the water.

It's not summer until the Froems pit up some cherries.

A morning game of Trouble.

Our anniversary was on Friday. We didn't get each other anything, so it was a good thing the girls made gifts for us. :-)

Clara's gift was a painted rock.

Brynn made us an F with string art. So cool.

Brynn had looked up a cache nearby so we drove over a bit to Star Lake and Clara found the cache in a tree.

I judged a 'Chopped Junior' competition. Very excellent dishes.

Before we left on Wednesday, of course Clara and I had to whip up some treats to bring to the lake. Her fav is Rice Krispie bars. Well, I guess Brynn doesn't hate them either. ;-)

I think the girls got this book from the Midwest Kidfest bag o' goodies. She has really been into reading it and I think it has inspired her to have a space-themed birthday party this year.

And, of course, s'mores!

Haha - Clara was waiting so patiently for Brynn to toast her marshmallow.

We made it out for an evening of fishing. Going in, though, we had determined that no one wanted to clean the fish we caught, so it was all catch and release. :(

Sadly, my cherished note from my dad is looking a little worse for wear. I still had fun, though.

Brynn was reeling fish in left and right!

We were about to head in when Clara asked Dad to put her pole in one last time. She was sure excited when they reeled a nice one in for the last catch of the evening.

Morning kayaking with Clara...

We came back home on Sunday. Dana and Clara picked a good batch of peas from the garden.

So many great pics! Wow, what a fun vacation! Did I already comment that I love, love Brynn's suit? So cute. And I know for sure I already said how much older she seems this summer, but it's true! Aw, I love that you left that note from Dad in the tackle box. I bet it's good luck!

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Halloween 2025

Happy Halloween! We did trick-or-treating at my office again and celebrated National Cat Day a couple of days late. Unicorn making magic happen! The kids and Freddy. We got a little bit of a late start around 7:30. We went to a neighborhood near the high school where several of Clara's friends live. We stopped at Micah's house to say hi and another schoolmate happened to be over as well. We got to visiting too long and by the time we headed back out, some houses either had run out of candy (including Micah's, where they went through 600 pieces his mom said) or were already done for the night. But, we still got around to several. It had just gotten done raining and the wind was cold, so I didn't care to be out too long myself. Clara asked to have another post-Halloween party this year and Brynn planned and executed the whole thing. One of our fav parts was the missing children posters which were all the guests. Green Army Man, Clara Barton, Luna Lovegood (from Harry Pott...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
