Clara's first day of daycare

Clara did pretty well her first day of daycare. Mama, not so much. I starting blubbering this morning already (well, actually starting last night) when I took her out of her car seat. They welcomed me to stop in during the day or call to check on her. I thought about stopping, but thought that might be worse for myself. I did call in and she was sleeping. She didn't sleep throughout the day as much as she does at home, but I think that's because I had to wake her to leave in the middle of her longest stretch of sleep for the day. I think that threw her off. I think she'll probably adjust as time goes on. She seemed pretty beat when I picked her up. They told me everyone wanted to snuggle her and she was pretty talkative (as usual) and smiley.

Brynn stopped in to see her when she got there this afternoon, but Clara had just fallen asleep, so they brought Clara over to the school-ager room to see Brynn which was really nice.

The caretakers there are super nice and seem like they will be good to work with. I had a hard time again this evening once we all got home together again. It just seems like such a short time to be together each day. We got some good snuggles in before bedtime at least.

Thank you to everyone who was thinking of me today. It meant a lot. I don't know why it seemed so much harder for me this time. I think being home with Clara for longer and having established our nice little routine and time here at home made it more difficult to completely switch things up and not be with her all day all of a sudden. And I was remembering with Brynn we had a little more of a transition; when I went back to work, Dana stayed home with Brynn for a few days and then Grandma Holly was home with her for a few more days before she started at Nancy's, I'm sure it will get better. Hopefully it does, as I was ready to quit my job tonight. :-)

Well, here is a little proof of what a talker she is now. Clara Talking Video

More Graduations + Start of Summer

A couple of weekends ago Clara had a very busy, but fun Saturday with her friend Cora and her sister, Violet. The sisters' dad took them to the Breakfast on the Farm near Hawley (We had gone many years ago. Clara was so little, she didn't remember it.)   They also stopped at the dirt track races on their way back into town and then Dana met up with them at MSUM so they could go to the oceanarium there. We had never been before, but it was on our "Moorhead List" of fun things to do in the 56560 zip code. So, check! Out on side-by-side rides any chance we get. We parked on Sunset Road, as we've dubbed it, to watch the sun go down. There is usually one or two other cars parked on this low maintenance road whenever we venture down there. Clara into her granny hobbies. :-) We attended the last of this year's graduation parties over the weekend. I went to one in town on Friday night and then Clara and I stopped at Karlie's party near Fergus Falls on our way to Z...

Fourth of July 2025

We were able to spend the Fourth at Tamarac again this year, with my sister and her family.  We arrived just in time for Brynn to change into her tennis outfit for the boat parade float. Their theme was sports this year. Clara and Oliver caught candy from the dock. This was the first Fourth of July holiday spent at my sister and Chad's own cabin on the same lake that Chad's parents have their cabin. Clara brought my mom one of her favs, Tootsie Roll. We were also celebrating Mom's freedom this holiday...from working on the Fourth! For the past how many years, Mom has had to work the Fourth of July parade back home in Carrington. However, this year as she is preparing to retire and training in her replacement, she gave the parade reins to her successor. It was great to have both Mom and Dad spend the Fourth with all of us together. It was just like old times when we all gathered at Terry and Wanda's for lunch though. I made a new recipe for dessert: red, white and blue c...

Christmas 2025/New Years 2026

Christmas gift wrapping shenanigans: Keeping Brynn company while she wraps all of our Christmas gifts. Brynn and I couldn't help but peek at the 150 Famous Poems book we gave to Clara. So many good ones. Getting into the holiday spirit at Courts Plus. Ha! Christmas eve brunch. Clara's gingerbread house contest strategy notes. Contestants were allowed 20 minutes to shop for their houses at Wal-mart. We left ourselves little time to get ready for the 3:00 Christmas eve service at our church. But, we made it and thankfully didn't have to sit in the overflow area in the chapel! It was a beautiful service. We had bit more time in between church and when we planned to leave for Tessa's, so I mixed up my eggnog and we got the car packed. Tessa's family hosted Christmas eve at their lake home. We had a great mix of people to play a game of Mind the Gap. Getting cookies ready for Santa. Clara got Dana and me up around 7:30 and we watched her open her stocking. I think Dana a...
